Here is my new (and first) jeep project. I purchased a 1983 Cherokee that is actually very solid. It came with no engine or transmission and 4 flat tires.

Things I have done so far:
-Purchased a 360 and 727 from Headhoncho
-Purchased a 229 from Steve-0113
-Glass beaded the original rims and had brand new 31's put on them

Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you have driveshafts?

Make a list of every last little stinking thing that you think you will need to get it running. Work on the getting it put together, running good part and then register it.
Every project I ever had that stayed down to long eventually died. If it runs you can drive it, plan surgical strike inprovements and enjoy it while not working on it.
Looks like a nice rig.

Nice rig....White is my favorite color on widetracks. Just like above make a list and a plan. The guys on this board are great about getting you the parts you will need. I have a rear drive shaft that I can part with for pretty cheap if you need one. Came out of my 83 widetrack. Oh, and last but not least we like to see progress photos.......

What makes it a widetrack?

The fender flares and iirc the J trucks are about 6 inches wider than the NT's.

If you are going to build a front bumper now is the time to burn it in, lot easier with the front clip off. ;)

:fsj: Had to do the front end today. Rust, rust and more rust. The u-joints all need to be replaced, along with the rotors and the paper-thin backing plates all bearings and seals. Any thing else that I should be doing with the front axle at this point?
