Rough Country Lift Kit: 3" or 4"?

When I purchased my '86 Wagoneer, the PO told me it was sporting a Rough Country Lift Kit.
I assumed for the longest time it was 4".
Now, I think maybe it is 3", but I am not sure.

My Question:
How do I tell if I have a 3" or 4" lift kit.
A person would think measuring it would tell, but measure it against what?
Would the springs have any markings or part numbers?
Would a 3" spring set have "x" number of springs and the 4" have "y" number of springs?
Would a 3" spring set be green with blue stripes and the 4" spring set be blue with green stripes?


BTW, it I had $$$ to burn, I would take that Rough Country Lift kit off and sell it for scrap.
It rides like a tractor, very stiff, very harsh, not kidney/back friendly.

My RC lift springs in the front are pretty close to 3"
I say this based on the rear RC blocks measure almost exactly 3", and my rear springs sag just a tad... put it all together and my front is SLIGHTLY taller than the rear.
So Id say RC springs are pretty close to 3"
Im pretty sure all RC spring packs have 4 leaf springs in them (ive read this is why they are so stiff)
This is in a J10 with 258.

I would say if you measured it at ( X ) body location to the ground,, then have others check that measurement at same point to compare. Then take into fact their tire size, what state they live in and their waggy color, you should figure out what you have. You don't even have to crawl under it , or ask someone else to do it just to see what color the springs are.:rolleyes:

I thought about this.
You need to recall, the front of my Wag has been hit and was repaired.
When the springs were taken off and then replaced, I think the eye bolts were tightened to much.
I want to believe this one cause of my rough ride.
It sits a little tall in the front, so what I need to do, is loosen the bolts and jump on it or take it for a short slow drive,
to let the front springs work themselves back to their correct height.
So, measuring may not work for me.

Besides, this really no big deal if I have 3" or 4" of lift.
I am more curious than anything.
Talking to folks about the Dunes and having been up in the area recently, has gotten me thinking about all sorta of projects that will get me on the sand!

Somewhere along the line, I either read or was told that Rough County did not make a 4" kit, but I could not back this info up.
Nor could I find the source that told me RC did not make a 4" kit.

I suppose the next next question: How do I tell if the lift I have was made by Rough Country?
My thinking is, that if RC stamps their name on their products and they do not make a 4" kit, then I have by default a 3" kit.
If I have Budda's Brand stamped on it, then I am back to the question, 3" or 4".
When it warms up and after I loosen the front eyes bolts to let the front springs settle out,
I will need to drive to a level parking lot to measure, look for markings and take pics.

So, how long did it take for your springs to soften up?
10K mikes? 25K miles? 2 years?
What shocks did you use?
Did you use a drop pitman arm?
