My 89 Grand Waggy is randomly stalling. When it stalls, it will turn over, it does get gas to the carb, and the plugs are getting spark. but it will not start until about 10 to 20 minutes later. When it does start back, it starts right up and runs normal. Sometimes i'll drive the car 200 miles andit will not stall, and sometimes i can't even get a mile without it stalling. It has 145000 miles on the 360. The choke is not sticking, my fuel filter is new, my battery is a few months old. I can not figure out why it does this, but it always restarts in a little while as long as i don't kill the battery trying. Can anybody help me?

sounds like ignition module.

You basically don't check it...but to know for sure...just keep driving the Jeep, when it suddenly dies on you outta the blue, pop the hood and rap the ignition module, if it starts, that's likely the problem, if it don't, that's still likely...best bet is to replace it now...and even carry a spare..it's a common problem..
Good Luck..

I had the same problem with mine. My experience told me that it was an intermittent connection in either the pickup in the distributer or in the coil, but I said nah it can't be that, cause they are both new. My dad had recently replaced them. In my experience the ignition module is either good or bad, but I have never experienced one that was intermittent, but I had read about others experiencing intermittent ignition modules, so I said that must be the problem. I replaced the ignition module and a few days later, engine dropped dead at 50 mph. I knew that the ignition module was not my problem, so I said it has to be either that pickup in the distributer or the coil even though they were both new. I went back to Discount Auto where I had purchased a cheap but not needed ignition module and purchased a new pickup for the distributer and a new coil. I put both of them in at the same time, and my problem disappeared. That was over 2 years ago, and I have not had another bit of ignition trouble since. Unfortunately, because I replaced both the pickup in the distributer and the coil at the same time, I do not know which of the two was bad on my jeep, but it could have been either one. I have personally experienced case where an ignition coil will heat up and then open up, but will close again after cooling a bit. I have also seen cases where the wire, inside the distributer that goes to the pickup will break inside the insulation due to flexing as the distributer advances and cause an intermittent open circuit. I would recommend replacing the coil first as it is easy and not very expensive. If that does not fix the problem, replace the pickup in the distributer next. This is also not expensive, but is only slightly more difficult. As a last resort I would replace the ignition module. An ignition module will run you nearly 150 bucks from Chrysler or NAPA, but only about 30 bucks from Discount Auto, so you know that the one from Discount Auto must be missing something, but it does work, for how long, I can only say at least 2 years so far.

Replace that Motorcrap ignition module with a MSD6A immediately.
When mine took a crap it would stall, start up again and stall again a few mintutes later. I yanked the piece of crap right away and put in the MSD so I don't know how long it would have kept restarting again before it died for good.

The MSD 6A cost me about $150, but it's not that bad when you consider the replacement duracrap was $92.

Oh yeah, and beware of people telling you the stock motorcrap ignition module is only like $18, those are for the older rigs, the newer style like you have has weather pack connectors and cost A LOT more.

89 is correct. they only difference is the GM weather pac connectors. SO you could find some new older style connectors and get the cheaper module.

Was just a bad coil, or connection to the coil, either way I replaced the coil and didn't have any more problems.

Check when it stalls to see if it has spark. Put a screwdriver or an old plug on a wire and ground it out. That will help you determine it's an ignition system problem. Sounds like a module, though. There's no reason you can't buy an older style cheaper module and clip the wires and solder your weather-paks onto it.
