OK I recently purchased a CArter AFB from Ebay to rebuild my other AFB that needed all those small parts that got lost during my move. Well forget that. the Ebay carb is in excellent condition. Thing is my original "MADE IN USA, CARTER AFB" (old carb) is made by CARTER. My EBAY CARTER AFB is made by WEBBER. What gives. As I recall the Edelbrock Performer carbs are also made by WEBBER. So are they the same carbs, the webber AFB and the EDelbrock? Is it really a just a Isuzu Rodeo with a Homda badge on it
:D :D

Weber makes both bodies, and they are identical units from that standpoint. Edelbrock and Federal-Mogul (Carter) then build the carbs with whatever jets, springs, and such fit their bill, and my opinion is that they use the same parts in that respect, as well. The 9600-series AFB carbs have EGR-compatible porting, whereas only one of the models in the Edelbrock line, model 1400, has this capacity.

So, do you buy Edelbrock parts for the AFBs or what? Or is there is selection of Carter parts for AFB???? If so, where to buy??

Parts interchange as far as jets, rods, springs which is what counts. I use a Carter AFB strip kit in my Edelbrock 1405. The Edelbrock calibration kits are easier to find than the Carter AFB Strip kits but they are pricey.

Flint - If you need jets, rods, springs etc let me know I have a race store down the road that stocks all those parts. I rejetted my 1405 to get it to pass Denver emmisions for $12.

Bill - I have .092 main jets (were .101) and .071 .047 needles with .080 secondary jets. Also loaded the strongest springs in the kit. The AFB came with a kit and most of it is still there. I haven't messed with the secondaries yet. It was running way too rich before the change. Also went from middle hole to top hole on the accel pump linkage. It doesn't bog on acceleration (sitting still) any more and kicks pretty good when secondaries open. I still need to work thru 727 problems before dialing the carb any more.

I am looking for adapter to hook up tranny kickdown, throttle linkage and cruise control too. Right now I have a make shift for thrttle linkage that will hold for a while. Any ideas there?

I think your are bit lean on the secondary I'd go back up to a .086 at least maybe even .089 and go .095 on main I think you are ok on the rods. DO you have the Edelbrock owner's manual for jetting calibrating? If not drop me an email adn I'll scan mine and email it.

I'll try and take a pic of my linkage setup to show you. If I remember right I took the piece off the orig 2 barrel that was on there. For the throttle you need to get a bolt on "ball" for the throttle to snap into. The 2 barrel was molded into the carb linkage so I had to go to a carb shop to get a bolt on. I might have an extra.

i emailed flint but for the rest .........

when i dod mine i got the offset plate edlebrock said was required [no bolts though] Arrrgghh

and on a fluke spotted a chryslar trans kick down adap for a ed carb and snagged it as well - worked perfectly

but i still need to engineer the kick down - but right now she is suddenly running on 6 cylinders and that needs sorted out

Thanks for all the feedback y'all. I got a Chrysler adapter for the linkage and things are looking much better. I was able to drive my 401 home! D*MN RIGHT! :D

For what its worth. I was checking on Carter AFBs just the other day and from what I can tell Federal Mogul discontinued their entire carb line. However, the Edelbrock version is still in production.
