I was reading back about the dizzy problems, sounds like a Prestolite system, by the way. i know of the easiest way to get a good, reliable, and easy-to-find-parts-for trick for the 258 motors that had either the Prestolite or the Duraspark systems.

You guys with these, you pay too **** much for modules, pickup coils, and the like. Aftermarket stuff like Davis or the drop-in DUI costs too much for someone on a budget. this trick WORKS, and is cheap. What more could you ask for...

Head over to the local wreckers and dig thru the GM trucks. You're looking for a truck with the 250 inline 6, with HEI. Pull the dizzy and give the yard guy what he wants for it, it's still WAY cheaper than you think.

When you get it home, carefully clamp the drive gear in the vise, and drive out the small retaining pin. Set these parts aside. Do the same with your AMC dizzy, and note that the gear teeth are slanted opposite those from the HEI dizzy. Is the light on yet? :D :D :D

Slide the AMC gear onto the HEI dizzy and put the cross pin back in. Install the HEI into your Jeep motor, it'll fit right into the block like it was made for it. Take your coil + wire, put a female spade connector on it with good crimping pliers, and slide it onto the coil + terminal in the HEI cap. If you have the HEI wires when you got the dizzy, just route them as per your AMC firing order to the plugs, set the timing, and you're all done.

And try to remember what year Chevy you got the dizzy from, you could write it down inside the dizzy with a Sharpie so as not to forget, when ordering ignition parts.
