I'm Looking to see what the factory length (18"? and 30"?) is for the battery cables on a 1987 gw. Obviously positive goes to the solenoid, but the negative cable is grounded on inner fender and on the a/c compressor not a/c bracket as I would have thought. Anyone know the factory setup?

Ground goes to the AC compressor, one of the bracket bolts. I bought #1 guage cable, cut them to appropriate lengths witha hacksaw. Then silver soldered the lug connectors on. Then heavy duty heat shrink over the ends. then I used military style battery terminals. Makes a lasting low resistance connection.

Well an 18" would be good for the positive side. I have a 15 on mine and its almost too short.

AC bracket is the correct location for the ground, but be sure to run a wire from either the battery to the fender or from the engine to the fender. Jeep never saw the need to amply ground the body, which can make for interesting electrical gremlins...
