Do you have your anti-dieseling solinoid hooked up to the carb? Need a little more info.
Most common dsl probs are becuase the idle is set to high or incorrect timing.

What is Dieseling?
The condition is also called run-on. It's when you turn the key off and the motor tries to keep running and actually sorta does.

Yes, it's that embarrasing phenomenon that always seems to occur when young women, or cool car guys are around. You turn off the key and to your horror the motor won't quite shut off, the engine keeps running at about 250 rpm while your car shakes violently then makes that horse sound and finally shuts off. At that point, you can finally hear that everybody around you is still laughing at you.

Not to be confused with "draggin", where the tranny only pretends to shift into park, rolling away as you walk away from your car, causing you to run back, jump in and yank on the e-brake, again while pretty girl laughs.

Hmmm, draggin huh? I actually haven't experienced that...nor do I want to. But if I ever do, you can be assured that there will be hot girls around, you can bet on that.

Sounds like you are getting a voltage bleed from the alternator that is keeping the distributor alive. I can't remember where you need to put a diode to stop the problem.

the Altenator bleed may be a big part of it.How do I fix this? I didnt mess with the carb, I dont have much experiance with them.I know my carb needs rebuilt but I was getting pretty good milage out of it.I played with the Idle ajust, if I get it down to where it will shut off with the key then it stalls in gear after letting off the gas Ithe have to turn it off with the Idle ajust screw. its idleing around 1000 rpm with the key off!!!

Well it ain't dieseling if it's running at 1000 rpm, it's just plain still running, and a little too fast I might add. When I added the MSD to mine it wouldn't shut off. I added a diode inline to the small brown wire coming from the alternator with the direction of the diode towards the alternator per MSD's instructions and it cured the problem.
