Hi everyone. Im looking to put on a new exhaust system and am wondering what kind of mufflers yall use. Im currently leaning towards the 50 series flowmasters, but they are a good bit louder than what im looking for. If yall know of any exhaust systems that will add to the performance and sound good without being too loud, please tell me. I appreciate all your help with all of my other posts. Im new to the FSJ game and am looking for all the advice i can get.

Thanks for everything,
Alex

I use a 28" glass pack with single 2.5" exhaust. I find it to be perfect for my driving. I rarely go over 3000rpm's but it still flows fine over that. Its not super loud but you can definately hear it. Its a nice deep tone with decent definition for a single exhaust system. Glass packs take about 2500 miles before they start to get their sound. And the older they get the better they sound. Flowmasters cost to much...your paying for the name. Most people here use super turbos. They have good tone and arent overly loud. And cost a lot less then a Flow Master.

For a muffler, I am using an Edelbrock RPM series. They are stainless and do not have any fiberglass packing to wear out. They are alot quieter than the flowmaster, but pricey at around $90. You pay for the stainless, but they have a lifetime warrenty!! They are also fairly small so they fit nicely along the frame and clear the driveshaft well.

Dynomax Ultra Flow!!! Flowmaster you pay for the name and it doesn't flow as well as the Edelbrock, Hooker Aero-Chamber or Dynomax! I'd go with one of the three I just mentioned! Or if your into spending some extra money do a dual setup with long glass packs!!! Thats what I have and I love the sound!!!!

I like my Flowmaster 50.

I never even turn on the radio. :D Just listen to the rumble.

Some times it might be a little to much. Like when the Inlaws invite us over. Woops.

Thanks for the edit!!! smile.gif I was wondering if someone pee'd in your cereal!!!! smile.gif How did you get them to fit? Do you have pics? My exhaust guy said the only way to get them to fit was setting them sideways next to each other. You'd see the muffler hanging down than and have a greater chance of them getting riped off!!!

I've had dual dynomax mufflers installed on my J-10, and I really like the exhaust sound. If you drive with a light foot, it just sounds like a tame v-8, but as soon as the RPM's go over about 3500, it sounds like a race car! Best of both worlds!

1BAD401...nah no pee. I was just trying to get a rile outta of ya'! No offense was meant ;) .
You having one of the nicest Cherokee's on the forum and all.
Sorry I don't have a pic, and yes there mounted on their side...dumped...just before the rear axle. There tucked up in there for sure. Center inlet... top outlet.

Nice throaty sound, at idle. Don't know much about the Dyno's...so no comment.

Oh yeah...I wanna see your rig get dirty. Those pics you posted awhile back....come ahn, that wasn't dirty.

Take care.

Take care.No offense was tak'n!!! :D You want to see my chero dirty?? All I heard on the little offroad trip we took last weekend was, "Man that's to nice to be 4x4'n in!!!" In fact I really got the "bug" I found a 79 J10 with a 360 in our area, I think I'm going to go look at it this week. If the price is right I might have another FSJ in the driveway, but this one will be for 4x4'n!!! :D

My brother had his exhaust like yours with flowmaster on his 81 Wag (401) he liked the sound but it was a little raspy at certain rpms. The Dynomax are mello sounding in the lower rpms but when you stand on it they sound like open headers!!! :D

I'm using Dynomax super turbo.Iv'e used these on several vehicles.Good sound not to obtrusive at idle or on the highway, compact size tucks up well, actually outflows Flowamaster in low to mid rpm's(below 3500rpm if I remember right).
Flomaster "70" series are supposed to be the quietest from what Iv'e read(no first-hand,ear,experience).

I went with the Dyno Magnaflow. Certainly quiet compared with FM 50 series but it flows more than enough for my setup and has a little tone at speed. Although I like the 50 series sound I don't want to hear it all day long in the daily driver.

I have 3" pipe and flowmaster 50, is just right for me, might be a little loud for someone else. I added a lot of quieting (insulation) on the inside of the cab on my J20, with the windows up cant hardly hear it. MG :D :D :D

I would recomend the 70 series Flowmaster. Thats what i'm gonna put on mine soon. Most of my friends have street strip cars, even a couple 8sec. street cars, and almost all of them run flowmasters. In my opinion they are the best sounding ones out there.

i'm running a single flowmaster delta 50, 2.5 all the way. nice, deep rumble at low rpms, mellows out and disappears over 1500.

ummm...stock type muffler? Cat conv. I live in Phoenix and have the smog police. My old mustang has glass packs. They sound great. Sometimes I wish my jeep had a rumble to it but it is also nice to have it be real quite. Especially wheeling so that you can hear the sounds of nature.

It never occured to me that I could run glass packs down the same side or a single glass pack. Maybe when I move out of Phoenix I will do something different...

Will e you can run a DynoMax or Flowmaster and still be smog legal. That goes for a hipo convertor too.

i run no mufflers just strait pipes under each rocker panel and an exit before the rear tires. this was the PO mod it is extremely loud but sounds cool for about ten minutes then you get a big headache from all the noice and vibrations.

40 series flowmaster, sounds good to me, pretty quiet at 65.

I just recieved my dual 2.25 inlet/single 3" outlet 50 series Flowmaster and headers from Summit. I haven't gotten it installed yet so I can't give testimony to the sound yet. I'm currently running stock manifolds, 2" duals and long glass packs. It sounds OK at idle and low rpm's, but its too 'raspy' sounding above 2500. I'm hoping to get a deeper, mellower sound out of the Flowmaster. BTW, the build quality of the Flowmaster is top notch with no packing to burn out. This thing looks like it will last forever. Not to mention the fact that they have so many different configurations to suite many different needs.

the 2.5" is not too loud and you can get 2.5" pre-bent tail pipe from carquest and others cheap($50.00). do it your self and save. the muffler costs more but if you do it, it ends up about the same as having junk installed at your local shop.

My current game plan is stock manifolds (budgetary reasons, otherwise it'd be wearing Thorley headers), cross under the frame rails, just behind the spring hangers, and dump just before the rear tires. I'm looking at DynoMax, or FloMaster, haven't decided which, yet. If there's anyway to do it, I'll ditch the heat riser, too.
