Has any one converted a jeep cherokee to a Chevy small-block V-8? I am interested in the aftemarket possibilites for the Chevy engines. Any idea about adapters that would permit the use of the AMC turbo-400 trans.? What about motor mounts?

Scotty knows alot about this. My opinion would be to use the Chevy engine with a chevy TH400. That way you avoid all the hassle and $$ of a custom adapter. You'll have to change the output shaft to the QT shaft and then it will bolt right on. As for the motor mounts they might take a little fabricating but should be easy to do. I'm sure with a welder and some materials you could make them.

Thnks for the input. I don't have anything against the stock 360/TH400 setup it's just that Chevy parts seem to be a dime a dozen. In addition, the G.M ignition setup seems to have far fewer problems than the original setup.

if youre happy with the QT,simply use a gm th400.it can even be 2wd,since youll be using your old th400 aouput shaft and adapter. i wouldnt fuss with an adapter for a th400 when you can build your own tranny that will bolt to both the engine and xfer that you want with factory parts.
the other option is to use a whole chevy drivetrain.you could search for a th400 or th350 with a 205. it will have the same passenger side front diff. if you like shifting your own gears, you could serch for an sm420(7.13 first gear) or an sm465(6.something first) either should come with a 205.
the 205 is cast iron, gear driven, rated at 900 ft lbs of input torque, and twin stickable. if you wheel it alot, you also have the option of using the range box from a 203 in front of the 205,to get a variety of low range gears,up to 4 to 1 http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif
