My rear left door won't open from either the inside or the outside. It has been hard to open for the last week or two, another job that should have been attended to quicker. I think the striker plate is out of alignment.
Any ideas how to open it with out resorting to the gas axe?

try removing the interior panel if you can. Then you might be able to get the latch to open directly.

I had the same problem with my rear passenger side door. It didn't work for about 8 months and out of no-where it has started working again? I have no idea what the problem was, however there was quite a bit of rust at where the latch connects the the body, I lubed it up and now it works great.

Is it a lock issue, or a just-will-not-open issue? When you move the lock plunger up and down, does it move freely? Is there a little resistence (ie it's actually moving the lock rod)? If the rod isn't moving, you can work a reshaped wire hanger down in there and manually move the rod up. If it's not that, then I'm out of ideas.

tuckers has the answer on this one. If you cannot get to the screws on bottom out, remove the handle and latch handle, insert a putty knife or simular blade and pop the middle of the door panel loose that should let you spring the top of the panel out. With the window up you should be able to operate the mechanism to open the door. If you can get to the screws then you should not have much trouble. Might want to take the back seat out for working room.

the left rear door on my 88 was sticking. i laid down on the seat and gave it a swift kick with my 10 1/2 eees. this moved the door on the latch and allowed me to yank it open from the outside. i haven given it any tlc. it needs harness help and lube and adjustment
