What would be the most likely axle gear ratio for a 76-79 Wagoneer, narrow track? The reason I am asking is that I want to swap in for my Willys Wagon. It has the original 4.27s, but it also has had a Stude V8 engine swap, so I am thinking a little higher might be better. Maybe 3.73. 3.54, or 3.31.:drivin:

3.07 or optional 3.54s.

Thanks, J10Mike. I am looking at a set tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the 3.54s. They should both be D44s, right?

Rear will be an offset Diff (Pass Side) Dana 44 front will be Dana 44 Pas Drop. Most likely 3.54's

That right rear offset should be a good thing with that type 18 transfer case!Do you have any kind of overdrive? There were 2 styles used, the warn style, off the pto port, and the borg/warner R10,adapted to the rear output.Stude used the warner unit too. They also used the t90 trans,so NO adapter was needed, this once was a popular swap.I have a pontiac OHC six I want to swap in one.

Yep. Type 18 T case and a T-90 tranny, all original. No overdrive unfortunately. Plenty of rust, though!

Yeah, the Studebaker was a direct swap back in the day. No adapter needed. The disto is a little hard to get to, jambed up against the firewall. Runs like a scalded dog. All it needs are new axles, springs, exhaust, brakes, wiring, wheels & tires and body work and she'll be ready for the Prom. At least that's my daughter's hope. I told her maybe HER daughter's Prom.
