Need new shocks for an on-road GW -- mostly highway crusing but some driving on unpaved roads in New York City (i.e., serious bone-jarring potholes).
Recommendations?
Thanks.

Rancho 9000s used em for years, good stuff. 5000s are a bit rough though...

Posted the same topic on June 2nd. The replies I got and doing some research there were excellent cases for both. I ended up going with Rancho 9000 because they have a special buy 3 get one free. Cost me $210 for all four and that included shipping form Sam's OffRoad. http://www.samsoffroad.com/samsoffroadsto/index.html
Putting them on this weekend.

yeah, got mine from sam's too. the adjustable (9 way) on mine is great and there is a difference is the ride and the amount of adjustment. too bad i got 2" over springs so i ordered the longer shocks and don't have enough travel. they bottom out. not sure what to do. probably 1 or 2 inch block in the back (it could still us it even with the new springs) but don't know what to do about the fronts.

I say Edelbrocks, sold many of them and never had a complaint.

Dutch and I had the opportunity to compare our former Grand Wags: he had the Rancho RS5000 shocks and I had the Edelbrock IAS. They are both good shocks in their own way.
The Ranchos are simply stiff, so you get a jarring feel of every bump. The Edelbrocks have a superior valving action that allows them to absorb bumps so that you have good road fee without being jarred. It's really a case, in my opinion, of getting what you pay for.
I love the Edelbrocks. I believe they give me excellent highway control and were superb trail-riders at Ouray last year in my 1984 J10. Be that as it may, I recently sold Dutch that J10, and he has bought Ranch RS5000 shocks to replace the Edelbrocks -- which he will someday return to me! ;-(
I really wish I had them on these twisty mountain roads.

RS9000s are the ones to have but they are not automatic, you get to set them as soft or harsh as you like

Edelbrocks.
Handles curves excellent. Great highway ride. Formidable off road.

My 9000x's are really versitle and a pleasure to drive on...I can stiffen them up for the trail and soften them for the road...will get the air adjust from the cab soon so's I can adj them from the cab and it will also let you adj the backs separately from the fronts..that will allow you to tune out some hwy bump..
