I have then engine out, so I thought id mess around alittle. I turned the shaft with it in nuetral. About 1/2 turn sounds and feels fine, then the other half feels and sounds like the front shaft bearing is bad on one side. Can I replace that dued just from the front of the tranny? And where to get another bearing. Also any tips for doing this. I hope it's just pull the bellhousing, spacer and get to it that way. Please tell me so!!!!!! Dennis

If I were me, here's what I'd do. Remove floor pan cover and then the cover bolts and cover on the T-18. Put stick in neutral first, a bit easier to put cover back on. Have friend or someone you know, turn input shaft as you watch and listen. THe front and rear bearings are big, and have round bearings. THe long input shaft on the Jeep T-18 makes it difficult to remove front bearing. I've used 3-prong gear pullers to do this. However, there is a puller kit designed for these trannies, but not sure where you'd get one. While the cover is off, check gear oil for quality, or lack thereof. Check the brass synchros for cracking. And if so motivated, drain gear oil, remove PTO plate and scrounge around in the bottom muck for excess metal shavings and gunk. There is a magnet on the bottom that collects shavings. Good luck.

I have a shop manual and a blow up diagram of the T18. I wish I could scan it, but to my surprise I find out my Scanner does not work with my new computor, and never will!!
