View Full Version : Rusty's 6"lift question: front driveshaft problems?
I just ordered Rusty's 6" lift yesterday, and then thought: "what about driveshaft length?" Has anyone who is using Rusty's 6" lift experienced problems with driveshaft length? Will either of them have to be lengthened? (I'm putting the lift on an '86 Grand Wagoneer). Thanks in advance!

The topic of the month is about lifts. There's a post in there refering to Rusty's 4" lift. I'm sure there's something in there regarding to Rusty's 6".
Hope you get the info you need

Hey Paul,
It's been a while!!! :D
I think there may be an issue with the front shaft only... rear shaft will be fine. The angle in the front is the problem child. I was close to max angle with my 4" Skyjacker, so it's safe to assume you will be even closer than I was to maxing out the CV on the front.
Another issue that came up when I originally put on my 4" system was the front driveshaft clearance in regards to the X-over 'Y' pipe for the exhaust. On droop, it would hit the 'Y' pipe...now I know you have a Driver's side diff on the front, but not sure if this problem will exist on yours, it did on my pass side diff.
Might want to crawl under and take a look-see, Paul. Might be a good time to look into headers and exhaust mods if you haven't done it already.

I have not had any binding or contact problems with my driveshaft. I did have some vibration because of the pinion angle. I added a 4 degree shim to tilt the pinion up to get rid of the vibration. I am probably going to take it out and put lockout hubs on the front so the shaft won't spin all the time and take the shims out. It changed my caster a little to far out. But the answer to your question is the driveshaft will work.
