Well, I switched the front axle over today (D27 to a D44) have the rear carrier and pinion ready to go in to match the front gearing. Questions are: my wag has power brakes however it has a small master cylinder and the one of the lines is smaller than what is needed for the proportioning valve. I was going to put the master cylinder and Booster out of a 76 but it does not look like the vacuum booster will fit in the space as the valve cover is close to the one that is in there now (Dauntless 350) how and what did you do here. Was thinking of an adapter for the line but wanted your advice on this or anybody's GOOD ideas that are always offered here! Thanks

I never had power brakes to begin with so I added the brake booster from the '79. In order to do this I had to drill new holes. It will fit in there, mine is about an inch or two from the valve cover. Take the old one out and set the new one in, you will be surprised.

You should use the proportioning valve from the vehicle that you got the D44 from and the master cylinder. It takes more pressure to run the disc than the drums. I would hate to see you blow your brakes.

The bracket for the older boosters actually dropped the booster down, If you use the pedal and booster from the donar you will only have to drill a couple of holes for a bolt in that works great. This is what I did on my 65.

Well, after messing around half the night with the nightmare of changing the power brake booster, come to the realization that there is no way that it would fit EVER! It was tight against the steering shaft, tight against the valve cover as well as the inner fender and could not center it to line up with the hole in the firewall for a straight shot to the brake pedal pin. Porkchop what engine do you have in yours I see jeepbob has a 360 and I am guessing that is what you have as well, and would also guess why this worked so well for you and not me as I have the very WIDE 350 dauntless and the brake booster off the 76 will not fit in there. back to the drawing board.

Never mind Porkchop took a look at your web page seen you do have the 360 in yours confirming that is why it fit in there for you. LIKED YOUR PAGE!!! If I ever get out from under my Jeeps I will have to build a Web page.

i got a GM 350 in my 66 and i had to hammer the fender apron to make the dual booster from a j20 fit mine, i used the OE bracket to fit the late booster to the firewall. plus other mods...

give me a reference on the firewall that wood tell me how wide ur buick is. use the valve covers at the start line.

Mine was very tight at first. I now have the 3" body lift so that gave me a lot more clearance. I wish you could take a pic of your bay so I could see what clearance problems you are having.

Thanks for the compliment on the my site. I hae an update for it but I am having trouble posting it for some reason. Chek back often.

OK the nightmare is about over! I wound up using the original brake booster and
mounted a master cylinder for a 79 J10. I had to cut the actuator rod between
the booster and master, as stock one was way to long. Hope to finish this tomorrow.
Here is a picture of the tight quarters
