I was looking at this chevy G30 van we have sitting (which I get alternating permission and non-permission to someday part out for the 4bolt 350 and FF 14 bolt rear)..... and noticed it has the 8 lug 16.5 9.5 wide rims in the front, assume same rear. Are these 8 luggers the same bp that a GM HD44 and Dodge rear D60 would have?

I would say yes, since I put 16" rims on my J20 that came off of a 1991 Dodge 250

cool. I'll probably look for some wider rims at the junkyard, but at least I'll have backups.

Same bolt pattern. Just check the back spacing. Also, are you sure that they are 9.5" wide? Stock GM 16.5" rims are only 6 3/4" wide. Could be 15.6x9.5 if they are after market though. Does your Dodge D60 have 1/2" wheel studs? Alot of them did. GM uses 9/16" studs.

Okay, sounds like it has 9.50-16.5 tires. 9.50 would be the tire size, not the rim width.

Umfortunatly your choices in tire sizes and stiles are kinda limited with 16.5s. Everybody has gone to either 16s or 17s

16.5's mean you can run hummvee take-offs for cheap. i know of a yard with literally hundreds for 40 bucks a tire, 70 miles north of here.. if the van is late model enough, then you would also have safety-bead wheels, which are sorta rare in a 16.5... if they are safety bead 16.5's and you don't want them, i do... run the hummvee tire and if you are gonna wheel it hard, beadlocks aint too spendy... and 6.75 wheels make it less likely to unseat beads anyway...

Dave are those the 37s radials or the less than desired 36s bias plys? Do they have the Bead lock wheels? Right now Crom has the 37-12.5-16.5s on Frod wheels no inner safety bead here.

Same here. I went to 16s as well.

Wish I could find the 36" bias tires. No one around here has them.
Tad was running some on 16.5x6.75" rims and he said that they measured in at 34' tall.

Thom they come up for sale down here pretty regular. There are no internet places to order them from around you? Boyce equipment I think is one, also I know they don't have good feedback but USA6x6 has them as well I think. They usually go for really cheap I know shipping would be $$$$$ but for the right price on the tires maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

No, I haven't found any place anywhere near here. Always several states away. I wouldn't mind running them on a set of 5 slot 16.5x9.75 aluminum rims.

You mean these? I would sell them to ya Tom. But, it would be an expensive ride.

Also, these Humvee tires do measure at least 36 inches. My new 315x75R/16s only measure at 34 inches mounted and installed. Maybe that was what Tad was talking about...His new tires.

Tad was talking about his old Goodyears, I think it was in his "It's time" thread.
I want to run them on this style rim. Unfortunately, shipping always make these tires cost more then they are worth.

Yeah that would look good. I think you should keep the old school look you have now. That looks so cool to me anyway. I can't wait to get my J2000 back to that look.

They would be a second set for wheeling. I like those rims because they came out back in the late 60's, so they would be period correct.

Oh ok cool that works. In that case good luck on the tires. Do you already have the wheels?

No, but I see several sets of them each year for under $150 locally. Never been worried about picking them up since the Jeep wasn't on the road at the time. Maybe during this years flea market season.

Yeah thats right I don't know why I forget that I guess because I've been talking to you about those 5 lug wheels so much (haha). What other good finds do you come up with at your flea markets?

PTO winches from $45-$100, fiberglass rear fender flairs for $10, rhino grille for $15. Fair amount of NOS trim. Cheap factory TSM's. Lots of headlight rings. But usually I don't walk out with anything FSJ specific.

I wish I had access to something like that I would be so broke it wouldn't even be funny but I would have all the good stuff for sure. When do these thing happen once a year or several times?

Nope, my old H1's measured in at a bit over 34.5" with weight on them.
Between the 8 tires I bought, the 4 tires I used and the 3 spares I have, they vary as much as 1/2" with the same tread depth roughly (I can not explain that). They were/are all on 16.5x6.75 rims.
My new 315x75x16 BFG MT's measure about 34.5 (but they vary a bit also) all on brand new rims.
It's not an air pressure thing either, I was never this picky prior to running a welded rear axle but since June I have looked at this closely.
Still confuses me as I mounted and balanced everyone of them myself.
So <shrug> I have no clue as to the size thing.
These...

37x12.5x16.5 H2 MTR's measure a bit over 35" on 10" rims, but they are at about 50% tread I would guess.
