hey all
finally got the jeep back to running with the new intake and carb, and here are my next problems:
at very light throttle(but not idle), i hear a high pitched whine. It goes away as soon as i lay into the gas some more. Its not like a belt squeak, but similiar to that sound. ideas on what that could be?
second problem. My kickdown linkage arm thingy is too short. I have it extended out all the way and it is still about 1.5" too short, is there to get a longer one, or should i try and fab one?
thanks again guys

Fab it. My dad made one for me in 15 minutes. Fits well. Do not know if he used welding rod or what. Make sure the area the grommet is in is the same size just make the back longer.

:D Are you married? if so, that whining is your wife complaining about all the time/ money you are spending on the Jeep... :D :D

:D Just kidding...
Sounds like you have a vaccumn leak somewhere. Get a can of carb cleaner, and (with engine running) lightly spray here and there on the intake, any change in the RPM will announce a vac leak

It seems I need to get Gary to teach me how to use the smileys
edit: If it was a vacuum leak, wouldnt the whining sound jsut get louder as the rpm' got higher?

Also had the high pitched whine, at first, whenever I let off the throttle at speed, then started happening at light throttle, then gradually got worse to happening at idle. Noticed that the whine was there even when wife's mouth was closed so determined it must be the jeep.
Removed the rubber hose from the air pump to the passenger side air tubes that had a hole in it. Tightened loose screws holding carb. to intake manifold, also tightened loose intake manifold bolts. Not sure which did it but no whine now, from the jeep.
And, of course, she runs a lot better, especially at idle.

As far as the vaccum leak goes...on mine I have about 22-25 pounds at idle, and once I get on the gas to start moving it drops. Down to 10 or below depending on how much you are accelerating. At crusing speed it will go up to about 15-18 pounds. The vaccum on mine is the highest at idle. If you are not hearing the sound at idle...Try looking at something other than intake lines. I would look at the smog pump and that area since you said the sounds are there with slight acceleration. I would also check the power sterring pump...Mine has been known to make strange sounds in the past.

Forgot to put in my sig that I took off all the smog equipment, So the sound cant be coming from those. Im gonna go out and check for a vacuum leak and check the power steering pump.
I'll keep ya'll update. and thanks for the help
