The guy i bought my GW from had a HAM radio installed and he left the "NMO" mount in the roof of my rig when he sold it. He told me that I could use it for a cb if i wanted to so i called a CB shop and they said no way it was the wrong Frequency or something... any comments or suggestions? i'd like to use this mount as it is already mounted and sealed in the roof....
Thanks guys....

Sure you can use it for CB..,.. just make sure that the antenna you get for it is for the 10meter band...thats just above the cb band(11meter) and possibly replace the stinger on top....with a longer one if it wont resonate .... ie bad swr.....about 2" longer than the one you get if it dosent "resonate"
Thanks guys....

Never seen a CB antenna use the NMO mount. As Mike said, if you can find a 10 meter Ham antenna, it may work for you. It will need to be a bit longer than the 10 meter band needs. I would doubt the 10 meter antenna could be adjusted as it comes. If you can find a longer whip section, you should be able to make it work. If you can't find something in a 10 meter antenna, you will need to change the mount out for a CB mount.
My advise here is: go ahead and get your Ham license, use that mount for a 2 meter radio and put in another mount for the CB. :D

Hey Mike, you have any idea about what's the best SWR I can get with a single 48in fiberglass??
I just put a new radio in mine after tearing out the crappy Kraco stock am/fm/casette/cb (If anyone wants this, they are welcome to it for $5 whole dollars - what ever... shipping).
I'm just curious - I'm getting about 2 right now.

well i found a place online that has K40's with a solid mount for $39.95 with free shipping so i might just take the other mount off and install the K40... now NEXT question..... how the hell do i remove the dome light? i bought a Chiltons and it is worthless for stuff like that... do i just pop out the center lens and take out some screws?

Racer32, I don't know how to remove the dome light but it sounds like you're on the right track. I think you'll be happy with that K40 antenna. Over the years, I've heard good comments about the K40 products.
CT, some antennas just can't be tuned to a 1:1 SWR. Its just in the design. If you get 2:1 across the channel spread, you should be good. Anything less than 3:1 will work just fine. There is some wasted power with higher SWRs but at the low power level of CB, the loss just doesn't amount to enough to worry.
I invite all you guys running CBs to check out the Ham license. You can get a license without needing to know Morse code now. It will give you priviledges (sp?) above 30mhz (which is just a bit above CB). There are many frequency bands to use up there.
If you would be willing to learn Morse code up to the blistering speed of 5 words a minute, you get lots and lots of frequencies below 30mhz that will give you world wide communication and at some impressive power levels. The Ham radios make the finest CB radio look like a Fischer-Price toy!
There are several of us Hams here on the site, willing to answer questions and help. BTW, I do have a CB in my truck too!

Hi:
You want a NMO to UHF adapter. Check out the
second item on this page (Part Number: NMO/UHF)
:
http://www.rfparts.com/antenna.html
Cost is $12.95. Most CB antennas come with UHF mounts. So
Antenna -> adapter -> NMO
Wrong frequency...hmmm. Nope just a much better mounting system with a larger frequency range.

<----- Has no idea what NMO is and the last Ham I seen was covered with mustard and cheese in my sandwich :D :D :D
Seriously, I have used the K40 in the past and think it is a superb setup.

If the dome light housing touches the inside of the roof drill through both for the mounting. The dome light will make the roof-mount strong.
