Thanks to gmarblestone I was able to put my stock wag into 4 WD LO last night. This is my 1st 4wd so I'm not sure how it's supposed to sound. I'm getting a moderately loud whining sound as I speed up. Also when I gave the steerig a full right turn it seemed that the front end was bouncing. Whats wrong?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Probably nothing...you've got to realize that you are in a very low gear when in 4 Low - the engine and drivetrain are not going to sound "normal" due to the fact that they are revving high to give you maximum power. If you were driving in 4 Low on pavement (which you are not supposed to do) and making sharp turns...it's natural for the front end to hop since the inside wheel is not making the same revolution as the outside wheel.

My np208 does the same thing. Very noticable. I think they do this.

The pavement problem isn't from a inside/outside difference in the wheel spin (you have a open diff that manages this) it is a front to back problem. Since the front wheel stake a slightly different path than the back wheels they do not rotate at the same speed when turning. On pavement the wheels don't easily break away, the TC will not spin at different speeds so something, has to give....

whining noise can be chain rubbing the case, or could be low fluid. They do make some noise, but usually it isn't very noticeable unless something is wrong.

My QT hums along nicey when engaged in low range. And, to be honest, its quite a comforting sound when traversing ledge trails at 10,000 feet. The hum of a transfer case, to me, is akin to the comfort a newborn gets from it's momma's heartbeat. :D

A couple of weeks ago I changed the diffs oil and checked the tc level. It was full and the color of the fluid looked good so I let it be. Maybe I'll just change it out anyway.
Thanks:thumbsup:

Got any single sisters? :D

Low range gears are straight cut, or nearly so, for strength, and that makes 'em whine a bit.

All Planetary Low Ranges whine pretty loud, louder than gear to gear by far
