Hey guys, I had an old friend of mine call me up about a month and a half ago asking if I had a good tranny for one of his friend's 85 Wagon. I said "no I don't have one" and jokingly said " He shouldn't waste his time fixing it and sell it to me". Then two days ago he calls again saying his friend will sell it to me for $300. I figured it was a beat up pile of crap that I could get cheap and have parts for my other 2 Wagons and my brothers. I went and looked at it. To my surprise, the thing was nicer than the ones I have. The engine fired right up and was the best sounding 360 I have ever heard (I've never heard an amc360 that didn't have an exhaust leak). It has an almost perfect interior. The door panels looked brand new. I forked over the $300 in a heartbeat. I guess no parts truck for me. Now I'm the proud owner of my 5th Grand Wagoneer. Who needs cocaine when you got FSJ's. I'm so addicted I might have to enter the Henry Ford Clinic to be cured.

Sorry guys I haven't went to pick it up yet. It rained about 3.5 '' here the day before yesterday and the truck is down one of the worst dirt roads in the county. The only way we could get out there yesterday was in my buddy's Wrangler. As soon as I get it to the house I will post pics.

CONGRATS!
Make em wait for pix. Or throw out a few more teasers. They will hang around for the real thing. :D
I picked up our J20 on Sunday and haven't even gloated once or shared any pix since I drove it home. (see?)

Seems like if you have four other FSJ's at least one of them could make it down that wet, muddy road to pick up the #5.:p

I would have used one of my wagons to tow it but none of them are legal to drive on the highway and there's a state trooper that cruises the highway often.
Update: My buddy and me went to get the wagon yesterday evening. We had to back the wagon out from where it was parked so we could get to the front of it to get a strap on it. I wanted to see how bad the tranny was so I started it up and put it in reverse. It moved about an inch and it started to grind some gears so I killed it quickly. If this wagon is anything like the others I've owned, the transmission is fine, the linkage on the transfer case is not fully engaged and is spinning in between neutral and 2wd. This exact same thing happened to my first wagon and it was a pretty easy fix. So if my hunch is correct I just bought a perfectly running wagon for $300. Fingers crossed! Pics to follow soon.

Godd deal.
I haven't psted pics of my good deal on the '88 yet either.
But if I get the good deal I'm going after today on a used camera I will be able to take the pictures.
Flint Bro, you bought a truck?? Details please.

I don't mean to hijack RAMBLINFSJ's thread, but yes...Ralph! We got us another 401 Bro! And it is a 77 J20 with T400/QT and camper shell on back.
This all came down just before my mother passed away, so it's normal impact to the Jubilee Jeep stables was probably affected some. But, we are very psyched to have a truck now. It needs a few things done, but basically in good shape and is drivable.
I'll start a thread about it when I get some more time. I have thrown out a couple teasers since January. See if you can find them. :hide:

Hey guys, my hunch was correct!!! The vacuum motor for the transfer case is bad so it wasn't engaging into drive. I have temporarily engaged the T-case with a bungie cord and it runs as smooth as butter and the tranny shifts perfectly. I have a perfectly running, driving 85 Grand Wagoneer that only cost me $300. Still trying to get some pics. My buddy who has the camera is north of Amarillo four wheelin' at the Canadian River without me, Jerk.

Cool, sometimes a bungie cord can be a great fix!

Well here's some pics! I drove it around all weekend and it is absolutely great. It only needs rear shocks, a little bouncey. I haven't cleaned it up yet.
