Does anyone know where to get dew wipes for the windows? Mine are cracked and don't wipe the dew off anymore. Also, how difficult are they to change?
Thanks,
David

THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE CALLED?! Wow! Learn something new every day! I assume you're talking about the stripping over the doors that barely contact the window.
Tell ya what... after many MANY hours of staring.. I've come to find out that the Dew Wipes from a 93-2001 Camaro (the newer of the body styles) will work perfectly! They glue onto the door, and they come up about 1/2 an inch and contact the window... they're quite a bit taller than stock, but they'll work and look easy to install.
Every FSJ I've come across is all dry and cracked up.. my 86 was.. my 83 is.

I learned that from my brother who works at a body shop. Thanks for the tip on the Camaro, I'll look for one in the parts yard next time I'm there. I haven't had a door apart yet, any idea how to get the old ones out?

Yank? REAL hard? I haven't gotten to the tops of the doors yet to figure it out.
BTW, the stripping off the newer Camaro's is CHEAP. You can probably get enough to do all 4 doors and the tailgate for about 20 bucks.

If this is true, I will build a small shrine to you and drink a cold beer in your honor.

Have you actually done this? Any pics?
I've never heard anyone call them dew wipes...
I have taken the weather stripping (dew wipes) off two doors so far. They are actually fairly easy to remove if you have a door trim removal tool.
I'd take pictures but my monitor at home flaked out and I can't download from my digital camera without a working monitor.
I'll do my best to describe how it works:
The outside (and inside) door skin folds over and makes about a 1/2" lip down into the door. There are several holes spaced about 6" apart or so (going from memory here...) on that lip. The weatherstripping has clips attached to it that slide into those holes and hold the piece in place. [edit] The clips are oriented like a clip on a pen as it would sit in a shirt pocket. So it slides in from the top and "hangs" in the hole.
In order to get the piece out, just slip the trim removal tool (or a screwdriver if you're careful) between the door and the weatherstripping. GENTLY pry the clip apart and it should slide right out. Start at one end and move down until you get to the last one. Be careful that you don't bend the metal of the door. If you want to replace the pieces with stock replacement pieces instead of the Camaro style, you don't want to bend the holes or it's difficult to get them to go in properly.
Oh, and if you're thinking about replacing all of the weatherstripping on the doors, it costs about $200-250 from the dealer. That includes all 4 doors and the rear tailgate...

I wonder if my brother made that up when I asked him what they were called. Anyway, thanks Derf for the info on removing the old ones. I'll try the Camaro option before I spend $200+ on new ones.

Hey derf,
it sounds like you did the OEM way. Could you email me some pics ( me@eAchery.net ) when you get your monitor fixed or replaced?
Joel
I'll take some pictures but I can't guarantee when I'll be able to post them...

You can also try a good auto glass shop. That's where I got mine, they had a bunch of different styles besides the ones I needed. I finished both doors last week, all new glass, dew wipes, fixed the door latches, and window regulators. It's a treat having all of that working at the same time.

JC Whitney sells some that looks like it would work by the foot. Don't know if it would work or not, but it would be an inexpensive option to the dealer. My quote was $275 for 6 doors, and 2 tailgates (78 wag, and 79 WT).
