what is the best way to fix a leaf spring mount (back mount on front leaf drivers side) that is broken/torn part way off the frame. can it be welded back and then supported by welding on other flat iron for support or will it not hold. It looks like the factory weld broke and then tore some of the other welds holding the bracket to the frame. It is not completely torn off only half way.

Yes.. you can weld it.... this seems to be a fairly new trouble spot now.... I found my 78 driver's side rear mount of front suspension to be torn as well back a few years ago......

Then is Sept... I bought my wife's 80 W/T and the same thing but a bit worse....
Just ensure that you have no load on the mount and align it if it's REALLY loose..... and put some clamps on it prior to welding.... those rivits don't hold too well I guess....
wire-feed glue that sucker, you might gusset or plate it to make it stronger... been jumpin' your jeep lately?

thanks for the advise i am glad to hear it is a common problem.
P.O. ran the engine out of oil. but everything else ran good. 360 with 4 speed and lock outs on the front. has dana 44's with 3.54 gears and posi rear end. i think it was a good buy for $160.
sounds like a good deal to me... good luck with it..
When it rains, it pours...
This happened to Mike B. last week on his 89'.
We are bringing it over to my place next week to do the repair, he said it tore a hole so big he can get his hand in it.
I figure we are going to cut out some of the surrounding metal on the underside of the framerail, replace it with some flat steel, and weld the perch back on.
We'll take lots of pictures for the archives...

Go back with 3/8" steel plate mounts bolted
through the frame with a 3/8" steel plate on the other side. 1/2" grade 8 bolts should do the job.
Little welds, little rivets and sheet metal
mounts just don't hold up very well.
