Hey guys. We got the stroker in and everything hooked up. Went to start it and it's not getting any spark. We've narrowed it down to the dizzy. It's getting power to the dizzy, just nothing after that. We're gonna try another coil and see if that helps any. Any other ideas? We're running an HEI dizzy.

Thanks.
Anthony

I thought this was my old thread.
Sorry, haven't figured my problem yet, either. :(

Same prob recently. Finally pulled the trigger wheel and saw how pitted it had become. Bought a new one ($5 at the Zone) and got her started.

What is the trigger wheel?

Pull your distributor cap and rotor. The thing that looks like a wagon wheel without the outside edge is the trigger wheel.

Check the internal wires, one may be loose?
That's all I got?

You indicated that you have 12 volt power to the distributor. Did you measure this across the DUI +12v and return connections? Is the HEI distributor ground wire connected properly to provide a power return?
Is the distributor rotor properly indexed to the #1 cylinder TDC?
Is there excessive endplay in the distributor shaft which allows the shaft to move up and mis-align the trigger wheel and pickup? (I found my DUI distributor from Performance Distributors was ready to fail due to this problem. It was caused by the distributor gear steel spring washer rotating against the housing and wearing away material on the softer aluminium housing. Fixed it by using a thicker 'staked' steel washer from another distributor.)

Try not to crank the engine over and over while you're trouble shooting the ignition system. On a fresh engine just cranking it over and over and not running it will ruin the cam. You can do a lot of checking without cranking it. Once you have a good solid spark get the timing close start it and take it to 2000 RPM. Then turn the distributor until it runs smooth and let it run. There is plenty of time to fine tune it after you get the cam broken in.

Thanks 64. I'm trying not to. Been checking it with a voltmeter after trying different things. Nothing so far. The thing that's weird is it worked fine in the 258, then when we put it in the 4.7 it doesn't work...

The trigger wheel looked fine. I pulled it all apart tonight and couldn't see anything wrong with it. Is there any way to check the electronic components without replacing them?

Thanks,
Anthony
