Just burned through my first tank of fuel. Just over 350 miles on 17.1 gallons. That is just a tick over 20mpg :D. Plus that tank had a lot of idling time, about 90% city driving, more than a few full-throttle acceleration tests, etc... and I think I stuffed more into the tank this time than when I first filled it.

I haven't been following your swap. Where could I read about the whole process? Do you have a post or a page with pics? Congrats on 20 MPG, that's awesome.

Congrats on the successful build! I think I read something a week ago about you having to roll on the throttle gently to avoid unsightly burnouts?

I second elskeptico's question...where's the build thread?

Yes, I haven't noticed a build thread (save the occasional update), and I'd really love to see some pictures as it sounds like you've done an ace job.

I don't have the entire process documented yet. A lot of people have asked, so I am going to put something together.

Meanwhile, lots of pics are here - http://linderfamily.myphotoalbum.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=album02

Mark, your install looks to be the cleanest I've seen yet. Can't wait till you have the swap verbiage to go along with the photo collection. I'm in the very early stages of collecting "stuff" to do a similar (6.2L + Banks) swap. I now have the donor truck in my possession, but still have many things to do before I'm ready to start the swap. Could even be a year out due to $.

Did you need to do a body lift for clearance? Some say it's definitely helpful with this swap?

Thanks guys!

Raptor - Body lift may help if you are going to try to retain the stock a/c and brake booster. I am going with an aftermarket a/c (Vintage Air) because I needed to lose the stock a/c for exhaust clearance. If you are using the 6.2 banks manifold (where it puts the turbo low and to the front), the a/c clearance won't be as much of an issue for you. I also installed a hydroboost as I didn't want to worry about a vacuum pump. With that, everything fit nicely without a body lift.

There's nothing like the feeling of that first drive after major surgery is there? Come to think of it, you were in for the first drive of our Jeepspeed out of you old garage too!

BTW Sparky, there is a thread on this site about a Howell FI system with idle problems. Check it out, you might be able to help.

Congrats! I give you credit on the 6.5 TD!! I didn't want to tackle too much changing things around, so I stuck with the 6.2 in my two Jeeps. best I have gotten is 24 MPG, but with this winter fuel, it varries! and not in a good way! :(

Very nice. Please let us know when you have the documentation done.
Looks very clean. I've debated doing a similiar conversion in my XJ Wagoneer.

May I ask where you got the engine?

Who let you in here?!?! I am loving this thing. I'm driving it out to CA this weekend to drop it back at the body shop so they can fix some runs, etc...

First drive of this thing was at about the same time of night. Something about taking the first drive around midnight.

You coming up to Eric's this weekend to work on the racer?

I got the engine used from a supplier in the midwest. I basically got a long block with injection pump and lines and injectors. I had to source everything else from wrecking yards, Ebay, craigslist, etc...

You think I actually know something about that EFI stuff? :D

I just hook up all the wires and the stuff works...
