frame woes-'82 wag lmtd.

I've found a problem with my driver's side frameraile. After removing the poly gas tank and the shrappled tank shield from my truck I became aware of a seemingly lethal case of frame rot. Alongside the area that the fuel tank nested with the framerails there seems to be nothing more than a thin layer of scabby rust where one would expect to see a reasonably thick cross section of steel frame. The upper secton of the frame looks okay. This damage continues to just before the
point where the spring mount is located. Can someone please suggest a durable fix. :(

C-channel, a welder, a few strong bolts for extra support.

Uhm... could you take a picture of the area of frame rot? My J-20 never had an issue, and I'm still a little new to my 83 Wag Limited. Everything seems to look okay, but looks can be deceiving.
