I've seen them done to D27's on CJ's of the same vintage, anyone convert the D44 to disks? Just wondering...

I have done it on 27s and 30s and from what I have seen the conversion is the same for any early axle including as long as the hub bolt pattern matches the donor caliper bracket. I got mine from a later Wagoneer along with the calipers. How many lugs are your wheels? For 6 lug use Wagoneer rotors, for 5 lug 77/78 CJ7 1 1/8 rotors.

There are mods you need to make concerning your master cylinder and proportioning valve or your conversion will be incomplete.
For a lot of detail, check out: http://uglytruckling.com/09_brakes_w100.html
(the ugly truckling conversion installs 3/4 ton spindles, hubs, brakes which would leave you with 8 lug on the front only, unless you converted the rear also, you can use other pieces, ie: chevy, ford and jeep to stay with the 5 lug, but in the end it may not be worth it if you are building anything above a stock vehicle).
Do a search on this site, there have been a lot of good comments on the conversion.
I'm swapping in later axles.
