But, what is it? This guy is selling it cheap, but he does not know what it is, and he does not have pic of it... Anyway, it is on a 2001 F350 SRW 4x4... Should it be a D60?

heres a story on chaingin to normal hubs instead of uni bearings.

balljoint front ends are just as strong but hard to make histeer.

metric bolt pattern means that your either stuck with either converting with that kit or running a sterling rear end.

Well, he only wants $100 for it... I will have to do a little more research on this one...

Funny... I would like to see the look on FedEx's face when I came dragging that thing in to get shipped across the country...

I may just go for it... I should be able to run it for at least a couple of years before I had to worry about the bearings and stuff...

its not $1200 to replace unit bearings.

its about $500 to replace them. the conversion to regular bearings is $1200.

and off road the unit bearings hold up ok.

for $100 its worth it.

The only real issue is going to be wheel bolt pattern. As mentioned that baby is metric and I believe the Ford rear ends are the only thing currently that matches.

I believe the spring perches are a lot wider than normal, you would have to go outboard on the front spring hangers to make it work. I am not 100% sure on this, but its just a bit of info I heard about the Ford axle.

I am in my home town.... The wife is from there...

Thanks for the info guys.. As far as matching up a rear, the Sterling 10.25 looks to be a decent axle.. Any opinions on that?

F350's never got the D50, that was the F250's afaik. All 350's that I have seen have had the D60.

The unit bearings are fine, they have a bad rap for no real reason. They do cost more than normal bearings, but its not like you should ever need to do the bearings on it again.

Dude buy it and think about it and if you don't want it sell on it here or sell it on e-bay, but either way you will make money off of it. Just make darn sure nothing it messed up like the bearings or the ring and pinion.

Too True and what most of these people are talking about I don't think they realize that the Dodge's are the same way.

Ford manuals apparently show the F350 SRW as having the D50 up front and the D60 on the DRW. If it has the Sterling rear axle then the front is going to be a D50.

Oh well...

i got a hp 60 and a sterling out of the same f350

the Sterling is a strong axle, only weak spot i have heard is the same weakness as the Model 20. tubes need to be welded to the housing. the tubes can rotate.

Yeah, pretty stout axle. Petersens ran their super duty with 46's on it and while they did snap a shaft or two, it held up well all things considered.

I was reading that the trucks made in Mexico had the D50 while those made in the US had the D60 around that time frame (2001-2).
