Oh...you mean this friction material? 'Course the shoes were only 3 months old. I mean come on...how long do you expect them to last, huh?

Personally, I think the Wagon is just trying to avoid hitting the big 100000

Yeah...no kidding, Ryan. The new shoes are riveted and new.
I'm just glad it happened a few blocks from home and not on the freeway.

Would those happen to be Auto-Zone Duralast shoes? My father has had a bunch of rear shoes seperate like that on his Chevy's. Sad to say I have the same on my Jeep. Needed rear shoes fast and the only nearby store was Auto-Zone. All they had where shoes with bonded linings.

Whew...what a freaking day.
So here's what happened. I'm driving home from taking the kids to school, get about 10 blocks from the house and step on the brake...not hard, just slowing down to meet a red light. I hear BAM! and my first thought was I blew out a spring or shock, but that thought went quickly 'cause I didn't immediately feel anything different.
THEN I thought I forked up the front brake...which I changed yesterday...but the noise was definitely from the back. THEN I could feel the drag as I drove away from the light so I thought I must have busted a spring or the parking brake was jacked up or something. By the time I got home I could smell the burning flesh.
NEVER did the thought occur that the brakes grenaded in the drum. When I got home and saw the smoke pouring out from the wheel, I pulled it, got the drum off and was shocked at what I saw.
Learn from this one, kiddies...don't ever buy bonded shoes for anything heavier than a Honda Civic, that's for freakin' sure. I was in a hurry back in November and got cheapo Checker brakes (probably the same as the Duralast ones from the Zone)...they were close, they had them and I was rushed to get the job done.

isnt that spring in the upper right supposed to go around the pin? or did that happen when they greanaded

No, it hooks onto that big honking spring that hooks into the adjuster.

Now that wouldn't suprise me a bit. I stay away from duralast brand parts...

Wow, glued together brake drums. What kind of silly idea is that? Did the shoes cut up the drums? It would be great to walk into there with the seperated shoes (and your drum if it got ruined), plop them on the counter, and state "well these weren't very safe, can I get a replacement?"

Or, drive your Jeep straight through the plate glass window out front. And then demand a replacement for your brakes because you couldn't stop.

I try to avoid "parts store" parts when buying stuff for my Jeeps, but I usually get brakes there due to convenience. Do you guys order yours online or what?
