Do they wear comparable to rod and main bearings or longer?

It's been my experience they wear faster. In other words if you have a 100,000 mile motor and plan on dropping in a new cam w/o changing cam bearings you're wasting your money.

The 360 in my 73 had a little less than 90k on it when I rebuilt it. Cam bearings were toast and led to scoring in one cylinder. Mains and rod bearings were still in good shape. It's the old top oiling problem with the AMC engines and the fact that my truck had been used hard on the farm with little regular maintenace by the original owner.

my old 401 had 26k on the rebuild and they were HOSED but the mains and rods were not very good either due abuse.
