Cannot say enough about the performance increase with some stupid simple parts and an hour of my time. 1 trip to Autozone and a stop at Napa and I had EVERYTHING I needed. Adapting the coil bracket took less than 5 minutes. There is no reason why everyone should not do this upgrade. Many thanks to all who posted about it, and a special thank you to the guy who posted the list of parts complete with pictures on his web page. This is great.

I had the rig parked since last night when I got home from work, which would typically mean 2 or 3 long (20 second) cranking sessions to get it started. After the upgrade, I hopped in, expecting to have to crank a bit, and it fired right up. I mean RIGHT up, almost scared me. Seems smoother, acceleration in neutral is a nicely improved curve, but alas, I have not tried it out at speed yet as I am currently bending new brake pipes to replace the burst ones in the rear. Will let you know tommorow after I drive it down to Moms in CT for mothers day. tongue.gif

Absolutely irbob's website. Thanks BOB! you saved us all a lot of time fighting with the morons at the discount parts places. The info on the Echlin ICC1 connector was perfect.

When I did the mod on my J20, it made an immediate, noticeable difference in starting and driving.
Highly recommended.

Does it improve gas mileage? I know, "If you dont like the gas mileage, you shouldn't have bought a FSJ!", but by god I'm 16 and I have to go to school, and its hard to keep your pockets jinglin' while going to school.

nicely done sandguy and baboon. but I have a question anyway ;) on the pics of your coil mount bracket, i noticed your "before" pic is nothing like mine on Ruby, my 82 wag. she came with a stock canister coil and a round screw-clamp style bracket. is mine different? I was told that a non-oil coil will burn out becaue of voltage delay differences. this makes sense so I always wondered how everyone was changing over to the smaller HEI style coil. So what was different and how can I modify mine to take this newer coil so i can take full advantage of the TFI. by the way, i did change to an accel blaster coil, but i can't find any specs on this one to see what the output is. if it's comparable to the HEI style then I will leave it.
