Bumpers are like opinions, everyones got one and they all think their's is the best:D . Your bumper should be based on the kind of driving you do and what you want out of it. Make a list of driving environments and the things you wanna accomplish and avoid when making a bumper. ie, approach angle may be very important to you if you do hill climbs but not to someone who drives mainly on the street, bumper width will be important to someone who drives in dense woods with close quarters but not to someone who does lots of open sand dunes.

Every time you see a bumper go over that list and start making another list of design features from various bumpers that you think will fit with your goals. This is what I do. Sometimes I think I have Automotive ADD so if I don't keep myself focused I'm all over the place.:banghead:

That's funny johnwaynejeep2 that is the same thing GAWag told me when he was over this weekend. I totally agree! Right now I'm trying to build some schema up of what everyone is using for materials, how they did winch plates, lights and contouring to the lines of a GW. I can fill in the blanks from there.

Thanks for the pics! Keep em coming please.:)

O my! I'm not touchin that one! :D

westexbiker: You've changed my thoughts on how tube bumpers look, Very nice! What size tubing did you use and what is the wall thickness?

Janie: I like that one too especially the are in front of the turn signal. It could act as a seat in a pinch!

FSJ Super Swamper: Something to be said about simplicity! What size tubing did you use and what is the wall thickness?

I'm trying to build some schema up of what everyone is using for materials,

I used 5in "C" channel, cut in the middle, ground the edges to an angle and re-welded it back together. The D-ring mounts are 1/2in plate. The mounting plates are 1/4in sheet and I'm using the stock bumper mount wholes and bolts. In the future I wanna replace the 1/4in mounts with 1/2in mounts for added strength and extend the mounts further up the frame to eliminate the crumple zone.
