Just started it up today, 1995 MPFI 4.0 in my sons 82 wagoneer. Man what a job. Motor mounts, change master cyl & booster, throttle and trans cables, fuels lines, electric pump & regulator, reuse the donor relay / fuse center and CPU. remove all the un-needed wireing and smog controls. Interface the existing wiring with the new stuff. I wrote it all down and made diagrams of everthing if anybody else is going to do it just ask. The best thing is it started right up on the first try.... I was amazed. Hankrod

that'd be a neat swap to do with an older, stripped down wag that was already a 6 I'd think. Something light and spartan.

Very cool! Golen has a stroked 4.0 (or 4.5?) that I thought would be a good choice for our rigs. I am considering stroking the 4.0 in my 95 YJ one of these days.
Did you do any mods to the engine, or is it a stock install? I would interested in hearing your seat-of-the-pants evaluation of how the wag does with the 4.0 in it. They are great engines!

yeh i think ill end up going with a already stroked drop in.
golen makes them as well as
hesco(awsome engine sorta expensive, horrible at replying to email questions)
titan(cheapest but i don't fully trust them)
and clifford performance(and actual 258 block, emails back quick, expensive no dyno results, promises over 400 ft lbs torqe)

Deus, JnG, Gambler... I will try to answer. The Jeep is called a Cherokee but is a 1982 Wagoneer: i.e. four door-full size. It is a striped down version with lowback manual cloth seats, manual windows in the doors - rear window is powered. It does have AC,PB,& PS. Original drive train is a 258 -6 cyl., np 208 transfer, tf 999 trans and a AMC 20 rear & dana 44 front - axels. I used the original engine mounts and a late 80's Cherokee Sport power brake booster and master cylinder. I reworked the motor mounts further to get the intake manifold to clear the brake booster, I basically removed the rubber mounts and replaced them with a .375 plate. This worked out great, it made the engine sit down nice and level & straight and solid mounts donot make the vehical shake or rattle like some may think. The trans shift linkage did need to be readjusted. I used the donor - 1995 Lorado throttle and trans kickdown cables, booth needed a little adjustment. I used the Hesco front balancer pick-up and trans speed sensor kits, btw I found them to be great on the phone - I think his name was Benny and he answered me every time I called, I would say a bit pricey but they get it done easy enough. Useless without pics! I don't think so, but I will get some if somebody wants to post them. Hankrod
if your not computer freindly i could post them for you, as long as you have a camera to get them on the pc. Thanks for info.

For the record, Jeep made both a Cherokee and a Wagoneer 4-door full-size wagon from '77 to '83; identical body except for the taillights (Cherokees had the vertical lights like the later Grand Wagoneers, while the Wagoneers had the wrap-around taillights).
So if it is called a Cherokee, it actually is one. :)
Sounds like a great swap, though!
