4WD Light stays on

4H and 4LO both work fine but the 4wd light stays on all the time but when you shift it and hit the brakes it goes out until you hit the brakes again or roll for about 10ft, everything looks in order on the linkage anyone have this problem before,Thanks Chris

Do you mean the 4wd light stays on when you go to 2wd? I have not experienced this, and don't have a lot of idea's, except the light is operated by a switch, if you can locate it and check it's mounting, like a back-up light switch that's come loose, and the lights stay on all the time. Are you absolutly sure it's going into 2wd?

I have had this happen on several Wagons, my 89 does it now and still. What is happening is the Wag is in 4 wheel drive until the light goes out, it comes out of 4 wheel drive as soon as torque is released of the driveline very rare does it come out of 4 wheel when stopped anyhow. I usually shift it out of 4 wheel while moving and let off the gas a little and it goes out. Do not step on the gas again until it does go out as it may only be partially engaged and damage could occur. ;)
