On my 360, there is tons and tons of smog crap on it. I want to take it all off, but don't want to hinder the general running of the beast, as that is the only thing she has going for her right now. What all can come off and still keep it starting and running well on a regular basis? Here in good ole SC, we don't have inspections, so I am good to go.

What year do you have?

The nice thing is if you have a '79 and older engine, it's easier to ditch the stuff.

You can do without the air injection system. It's mostly peripheral. Just go with headers or find some non-smog manifolds.

The PCV valve you want to keep.

There's been some debate on the EGR valve. If you remove it, you have to rejet your carb. The EGR was the solution for higher combustion temps due to the leaner fuel mixtures required for emissons.

Just about everything else can go bye-bye as long as you defeat or bypass it correctly.

BTW, for the record, I'm not advocating that you do this, since it's technically illegal, even without inspections. I'm just giving you some info.:D

Thanks for the info. I have an '86, and I haven't even begun to dig into things yet. My biggest issue is that I don't handle computers well in Jeeps, and I don't know what, if anything, was controlled by an ECU or ECM. I want to do away with the majority of it except the PCV, EGR, and probably hang on to the charcoal cansiter too. I just don't like a lot of vacuum lines and stuff running all over the engine compartment, as that is what generally is the hardest problem to diagnose when you have a vac. leak. Thanks, and any more info will be greatly appreciated! I need to know how to bypass certian things, and what all can come off. Thanks!

Don’t forget you also have to leave all the vacuum lines that control spark advance, unless you are just going to run it off of ported vacuum, but that would make it harder to warm up, and if above 220 deg. it wouldn’t be able to retard the timing.
