I received a letter from the Illinois EPA today. It says:
.
.
"We have received your correspondense regarding the above referenced vehicle. Recent changes to the Vehicle Inspection Law of 2005 provide that vehicles of model year 1995 and earlier that are in compliance with the law as of Febuary 1, 2007 are EXEMPT and are no longer subject to emissions testing.
Based on the criterion the vehicle noted avoe has been placed in EXPEMPT status. You will no longer receive test notices for this vehicle."
.
.

Actually, I received a notice that I was required for inspection. I got the notice while I was doing my top half. I returned the notice and told them I was down for mechanical purposes, and would be available for inspection in 6 months. That is the correspondence they are referring to.

I actually put a non-egr manifold w/4bbl and removed the AIR systems. I was wondering what I was going to do to pass the emissions test.

I guess I don't have to worry anymore. :D

YOU SUCK

In the Garden State you have to pass emissions unless your vehicle is pre 1979!

Up here it is exempt if it is over 25 years old.

Otherwise every other year.

25 years and older are exempt here. Luckily all you need to do on an emissions subject vehicle, is pass the sniffer test, regardless of modifications. At least that's how it works when we get our cars inspected at our garage, they do a safety check, then put it on the sniffer machine. They don't say anything about what's under the hood so long as it passes the sniffer, makes a whole lot of sense to me since most of us are making upgrades that generally result in a better fuel burn, it's stupid to fail a vehicle that burns cleaner than it did from the factory just because it doesn't have the obsolete EPA mandated junk on it.

Depending on where you are in PA they'll either do a visual emissions inspection, a sniffer test or no test.

In NY, atleast my part of NY, if it's an OBD2 rig you get a plug in test. Anything earlier gets a simple visual if that.

Missouri went the same route. 1995 and older vehicles will be exempt from emissions testing. But, it doesn't go into effect until September, 2007.
Doesn't really matter though. My J10 has always passed emissions.
However, I do have an Edelbrocl Performer and 4B carb waiting to install. So, now my concerns are how diligent the inspectors will be with visual inspections. Will they notice a non factory manifold and carb? We'll see.

All the smog crap is the main reason I moved away from Calif. Southern Calif is like a giant ant hill, too many people and everyone of them trying to control your life.
Life is so simple here (the way it should be everywhere) I love it. I wouldn't go back if it was free.
No smog checking, and people mind their own business.

Eh, smog test. Never heard of it? Does anyone know what the law is in Scottsdale, AZ?

Congrats!

My Waggy was long exempt when I bought it.

There's method in my madness, I keep tellin' folks.

All my vehicles are exempt. Weld County, CO. The only county on the front range that does not have emissions testing...Well certain parts of it, including my town...Which is nice 'cause my ZJ would never pass and I registered my A4 with no cat at the time.
