Someone couldn't wait to slap on the new tires and rims today. That same someone really can't wait til the 4 in. BDS lift comes in this week.;)
Here's a before pic.

And here it tis with the new meats.

All in all, I think it's looking pretty good. It is nice to have an SJ in this household that doesn't spew Dexron and has a working transfercase. Then again, this is Bill's rig and not mine.:D ;)

And one more from the drivers side shows the clearance a bit better. So far no rubbing, but I haven't taken the rig offroad yet. But turning clearance is no problem, at least 2 in clearance and about the same on the rear as well.

WOW, looks pretty good as is. Can't blame ya for not waiting!

sorry i meant from down the side of the rig... if that makes sense. just to see where that backspacing put the side of the tire in relation to the edge of the fender.
i love how the widetracks can take 33s at stock height! i also put on 33s before i lifted mine.
so what did you use on the paint? i would have thought the paint was toast, but its nice!

That thing will turn more than a few heads as it rolls down the street. Great job and what an effort to bring back the paint, I don't know that I could have done that.

Janie and Bill, that's looking great! You're right - what a difference some elbow grease and new rims/tires can make. Really, really like those rims.:D

Thanks Phil,
I've been detailing vehicles since I was 12. I'm still nowhere near thru working on the Cherk.
I started off using just a cleaner/wax to bust thru the old oxidization, then follow up with Meguire's Tech Wax and then I hit it again with polish only. Each step requires several coats.
Once I know I've reached the "true color" I'll seal it with wax. The Cherk has roughly 4 coats in various stages, mainly on just the drivers side/hood at this point.
Oddly enough, Tequilla took 17 coats before I was satisfied with the outcome. And nope. No orbital buffers are used. To easy to burn the paint.

so this is manual, hand work? What cleaner/wax and final polish do you receommend for oxidation removal? Seems like are about a million products out there. I think Mequire's should cut you a check :-)
Never really thought there was something workable under the oxidized paint . .but again I am a musician/software developer .. so what can you expect. Looks great . and I think several have commented on the paint as much as the new meat.
Thanks Phil,

She's already got half the doors on Peso shiny, she's a visionary and the last time I had the Chero there she started the shiny process, knowing full well she would see the doors again...
The best thing about Bill's chero getting new shoes is, I get to keep my extra GE wheels!
Bill, Janie, the Chero looks great, the paint is so much better then the first pic I saw, and the wheels look good too.
Bill, don't plan on mudding in that thing, BFG AT's don't do mud!

While I do like the tire and wheel combo, I think they are too modern looking for an older style vehicle. I think they would look better on a late 90's -06 truck. It would be like putting a modern fiberglass cap on your 60's pickup. The paint came up nice but for me I like the first picture best. I guess that's my taste from growing up in a log cabin.
