View Full Version : Grand to a Chief?

I recently received a "gift" of sorts. A buddy gave me his 84 Grand Wagoneer. I love the big Jeeps but have always owned/worked on CJs. One of my all time favorites is the Cherokee Chief. So, I was wondering, is it possible to change a Grand into a Chief? Is that something that I should just forget about thinking about? Ideas? Thoughts?

for all practical purposes, no.
but.....you can add XJ bushwacher fender flares, lay down a little paint and she will look similar to a w/t chero.

If you really wanted, you could put on the front venders from a J-truck or Chero, modify the rear sheetmetal and fit a set of flares in the back, then paint it up, but honestly I think a GW would look kinda goofy impersonating a Chero Chief. They do look good with the flares on them though.

After thinking about it a bit more I think I'll just have to save my pennies for the real thing, like you two said, it would look goofy. Thanks for the input. I'll keep the flares in mind, though. A little beef on it won't hurt!

Does this look goofy to you? This is one bad azz Waggy turned...Waggy with an attitude...flares included. It's no Cherokee. But, I'm thinking few would complain.

Yeah, free FSJs are good, but posers suck.

On the other hand, I was just thinking today....YJ rear flares are free to dirt cheap, and would be easy to install on an FSJ...the only hard part would be cutting them up a bit to try to match the lines of the body edge of the wag. THen, as mentioned, you could throw some FSJ fenders on the front. It might be pretty cool....or maybe I am just really tired right now...

The easiest way to turn it into a Cherokee Chief is to copy the 4-door version. You wouldn't have to modify much.

Here is a crappy pic of one. Top right corner.

J-10Mike---That is a nice looking rig. Definately does not look goofy. Is that yours or someone on the board per chance???

Jode---I agree 100% with your first comment. Always have, always will...which makes me want to beef up the GW like J-10Mike's and keep it a GW not a Chief. I'll just have to save some money for the real deal one day...

KaiserMan---I didn't know they made a two door version in that body style. Personally I hate the four door (especially on the XJ) so I'd love to make the GW two door, but I seriously doubt I will have the knowledge, patience, and money to do so.

Thanks for the input guys

No...not mine. It belongs to member Heimeken. Just one of three nice FSJs he has.

Cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for him and his other toys as well.

He wheels it here and there. But, he has since retired it from wheeling so he can wheel his bad boy Cherokee.
Come on Jaime...help me out here.....

Looks like somebody was overheating;)

I've always like heimeken's rig and I'm seriously thinking about painting mine that color yellow w/black accents like the factory chief package woulda had but in yellow and black.

BTW-You could always make that GW into one of those Mexican Wagoneer Sports:D
