My '88 Grand Wagoneer idles too fast I've noticed. There's no forward play in the throttle linkage, so the throttle isn't binding up. The throttle return spring is working fine. The high RPM continues well after the Jeep warms up, so I don't think it could be the choke (electric). I can't figure out what might be causing this.
My '82 Jeep Wagoneer has the exact same intake and carb (Edelbrock 4V 650 CFM 1406 and performer series intake) as the '88 and the same AMC 360 engine. The only real difference is that the former owner of the '88 GW installed an Edelbrock high-performance camshaft kit. The '82 starts with the same idle, but a quick rev of the gas slows the idle, this is not the case with the '88. The Jeep runs smooth and has plenty of power, but I am concerned about the excessive RPMs during idle. The gas consumption of the 360 is bad enough as is, the high idle isn't helping (I am also concerned with the life of my breaks with this problem).
