Does anyone have any pics or diagrams of a 76 J-10 gas tank? I have a 73 manual, and my tank doesn't match the diagrams in the shop manual. I need to replace the pick-up tube sock, so I want to replace the breather tubes also. Can the Check valve canister, mounted in the bed be cleaned? Mine has been by-passed. Thanx, Jim

I have the 76 manual, but don't know how to post a picture. Anyway, the fuel return line connects to the nipple next to the sender wire in the tank gauge. The fuel outlet connects to the other nipple. Both left and right vent lines on top of the tank attach to the bottom of the liquid check valve, which is probably long gone.

Jim, the pic in the 73 book just shows the tank/lines for the Thriftside trucks so I'm guessing you have the Townside. The only difference in the tanks is the shape/parts of the fill pipe pieces. From there down same tank. The vent line to the fill pipe and both those to the canister are from the same location in either tank. Tanks themselves are the same.
The sock/filter is the same also for any of the tanks in 76 whether Wag/truck/thriftside/townside don't matter. It's the one that's 2-3/4" long. They didn't go to the 4" filter till 1977. If you still think you need the 76 Townside tank pic I can scan it for you but don't plan on ordering a fill pipe if yours is rotted. I had to make my own for my previous truck.

I have my 78 out of the truck sitting on the floor, does that help or do you need a pic of it in the vehicle?

Thanx guys, Joe,yes it's a townside. My main problem was fitting the new sender unit in tight. I'm thinking it's loosened up, 'cause now the guage doesn't work again! The filler is o.k., just wierd nasty bends. And of corse I need to replace the "sock". Paul, a pic out of the truck is the one I need if possible, would you e-mail it to me? Carrotman, the check valve is still there, just by-passed. I want to try to clean it, and hook it up again. Jim
Jim, I sent you a pic of the tanks for 76 for both style beds. You'll see they're the same except the fill pipe so you can actually use the pic in your 73 TSM. Hope it helps.
