89 Sunbird. Been a great car. Anyway, 2.0 4cyl non-turbo and throttle body. For about a week now, it's not been starting at times. I poured fuel in the throttle body and it started right up. Ran for awhile, then turned it off and wouldnt start again. Tried the fuel again, and it would run until the gas would run out. I thought it was a fuel line or injector froozen, cause it's been like -6 to 20 degrees for a week. I got it started yesterday and added some fuel antifreeze and ran it for awile. Came out this morning, same shiet. Anyway, Im thinking maybe the injector is shutting down. Isn't that the way throttle body injectors act when they start going out. Kinda on and off? If the regulator was bad, wouldn't it not start at all? Just thought id ask. Thanks, Dennis

I am not very well versed in this, but I beleive there is a cold start injector that aids in cold starts. I would be inclined to think this could be a possibility from what you are describing. I have no further info as to where or if you actually have this. It was a Tid Bit of info I had in my brain for no apparent reason.  ;)

Not sure where the fuel pump is located, but since you add fuel directly, you say it works. Sounds like the fuel pump may not be doing its job.

Have you unplugged the fuel line while you're cranking to see if gas is being delivered to the engine?

He would have an electric fuel pump in the tank. I would think if it runs and drives after initial start that the pump is fine.

As a temp fix /test try this: turn key on (not start) allow fuel pump to cycle.....turn key off. repeat 3-4 times. this may alow the pump to get enough fuel in the line to start and stay running.

If this works then your fuel pump is dying slowly (not enough umph to pump enough fuel to start)....you will need a new one. :(

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter.Could explain the intermittent problem due to it maybe being partially clogged. The regulator is an integral part on TBI.

Just add some NOS, it will all work out!

if all this started with cold weather check the coolant temp sensor may be bad not telling inj to run rich to start and keep running in cold weather that would explain why extra gas works find the temp sender unplug it try to start car nostart use a paper clip to short plug then try to start I know one way sends it to 350 and the other to -50 best of luck

There may also be a relay telling the fuel pump to run. Might want to check that too. You can usually jump it.

make sure and check the muffler belt. if it isn't turning, your building up too much back pressure and it won't start.
