Here is the deal. My AC would not recharge propely last summer. AC did not cool when I bought it 2 yrs ago. Mechanic said it might be leaking high and low valves. I bought a used compressor for $50. The Valves LOOK OK. Should I try these valves,Buy new valves.(Priced at $60 apiece). What if the compressor is bad? Any way to test it?

So how much would it cost to put the used one on, charge it, and see how it does?????

first to check compressor, turn the clutch hub by hand. it should turn with some resistance but fairly easy.Doesnt mean it will work ok,but at least it is not locked up.I would suggest filling it with pag oil for a couple of days, drain it and repeat.see what comes out and if it looks ok you can prolly use it.As far as the valves, the only ways to test the system to hold pressure is to either pull it down to a vacuum and see if it holds overnight,or to give the system a partial charge and perform electronic leak check or add tracer dye and check it with a blacklight in a couple of days.also change any line o-rings before you put the system together.
