Alright, i've been yackin' on here about crazy stuff for a while now. Now i've got a legit "scoop" on a half-way nice '83 Waggie Limited.....for a hundred bucks. Drawbacks--

1. No Engine(DSPO blew up the 360, and took it out, sold it to my friend, block is MIA.
2. All glass minus Windshield is broken out.

What i'm curious about is what auto trannys and x-fer cases came in this year rig. We know at least that it's a Quadra Trac, so i'll be joinin' the ranks finally! LOL http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif And second, depending on the tranny, what are my engine choices, meanin' if i've got a turbo 400, will a 350 chevy hook up or if it being a 727, will a 318 or a 360 hook into it, or am i stuck with AMC only power (258,304,327 vigilante,360, or 401). I'd appreciate the help, 'cause up here if I can find something for cheap that'll fit, it's gonna be alot easier to find a chevy or dodge block, than a good AMC.

Thanks again! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Now thats sounds like my kind of project http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/net/biggrin.gif !
If I'm correct it doesnt have a real quadra-trac but an NP 229? It will have a 727 but I don't think anything othar than an AMC will bolt to it. You could take a whole Dodge engine and tranny, change the output shaft and it'll bolt to your 229. Motor mounts wont be that big of a deal just make sure you get them off your parts vehicle. If you have a welder and cutting equipment then they will be easy. Another option would be to use a Ford engine with a C6 I could be wrong on this but I know Ford put NP transfer cases behind their C6's in the 80's. So I figure it shouldnt be that hard to do.

If I'm not short circuiting in my grey matter, I beleive the fellow at Kennedy American said he was considering making a pre-fab engine mount brakckets for swaps. But, in the end decided against it 'cause someone in Calf. was already doing it.

Having done a swap on a car, would certainly lean toward buying such a bracket if I thought the maker had really figured it out well. If you do go with a Chrysler motor, use the fail-safe motor mount system used from the mid 70s on up. My .02 is that the choice of motor will depend a lot on what you want to do with it.

Since it's post-79, that Wag has a TF727 tranny in it. The label may say Quadratrac, but it ain't a Borg-Warner--it's a New Process. If you want to put anything other than an AMC motor in it, you're looking at adapter plates at the bare minimum, all new motor/tranny/xfer mounts most likely. It may be easier to find a Big Three motor but I think in the long run it'll be more expensive.

having done many swaps on these things, if you want to stick with your current tranny and t/case you will need an AMC motor (not a Vigelante 327)and beware the pilot area in the crankshaft was changed in late 1970 so make sure the torque converter nose will fit in the crank

L8sleeper,

Too bad you weren't more local. I have lots of glass out of that wreck with the flying motor. And if you were a gambler, I have a real deal on a motor! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

L8sleeper,

I'm talkin about the block that I dropped from 6'. I really don't think you want it -No Timing cover, no Oil Pan, and a whole lot to ship it. If it was sound, I could see it being worth while, but....

About the glass, what I have isn't great, but its free. Some of it has been tinted and needs a lot of work to clean it up. Got the back windows for sure (just salvaged those). Not sure what I have duplicates of - I'd have to dig through the shed.
