Well, Most of Ohio has been hammered by the white stuff. I got to take my GW out to see how she would do in the snow. Since this is the 1st time I have had her all together in the snow. She handles great! Even went up my grandfather's lane, which is a 1/4 mile bumpy hill. Also, drove up the farm on the frozen tundra and no problems what so ever.

Anyone in the snow today??

When I bought my J-20 a few weeks ago it had been sitting in the side yard of a guy’s house for 6 months, was surrounded by about 2 feet of snow. The guy I bought it from backed his big burly dodge 2500 diesel up to it to pull it out. But before he could get that far he got stuck in the snow! After pulling him back to the road we spent a little time getting the J-20 running and then drove it out through the same stuff that had just swallowed his dodge. From the little bit of driving I did that day I was hugely impressed with how well it does in the slippery stuff. :drivin:

Will see how well the Cherokee does tomorrow in the 2-3FT we're supposed to get. I've been dying to take the J10 out in the snow since I got it but the battery's actin up so I might just have to steal one from something else & give it a go. Will post pics tomorrow.

Been tearing it up down here south of Cincinnati the past 2 days. We were spared the 14" of predicted snow and got a few inches plus a ton of ice. The lights here at work keep flickering as I type.
The J20 has been a blast to drive in this mess. The new 33" Dunlop Mud Rovers are a HUGE upgrade from the BFG AT's that were on it last winter. Kinda shakey about tonights drive home after this ice storm has been hitting us all day long here. 3 AM and 17 degrees is a bad time to make a 40 mile trip down the 2 lane twisty roads trying to get home again. At least there won't be many other cars out tonight.

Started snowing gently when I left from my last class, I had snow tires in the back of the Mustang but I never needed to mount them. Hardly any snow when I got home, no snow now. Hopefully it stays that way, I need the insurance agent's place and the DMV open tomorrow for putting my '79 Cherokee on the road. After that it can snow, cause then we'd take the Wagoneer to go pick up the Chero and have a mini FSJ parade back to the house. I think the first thing I'll do after getting back is go out on the beach and get a pic of both Jeeps together in the snow.

I love how the GW handles in the snow. I have people doing 180's and landing in ditches all around me and I'm driving like I'm on a dry road. Every now and then I have to shift into 4wd just to get started from a stop but aside from that no problems.

Oh by the way, I found that I can shift into 4WD on the fly with my NP229 if I'm going really slow (under 10mph with only the occasional tooth slip) and I can shift out of 4WD at under 25mph. To anyone reading this with a NP229; They are not designed to shift on the fly so don't try this because I said I do. I may very well shred my 229 one day doing this.

i'm in the snow belt. i drive the J20 in the snow all the time. handles great. 33 inch BFG muds leave nice deep tracks in the driveway.

I brought my Wagoneer home Saturday and decided to try some snow covered hill climbing. At first it sucked. Had 25 lbs of air in the 36" tsl sx's. Dropped it down to 8 lbs and that did the trick. Climbed hills most people can't climb dry in the wagon. Very impressive.

229's can shift on-the-fly, but the rigs with vacuum disconnect axles ('83-84 like mine), can't because of the way the front axle engages, for those you have to stop before shifting. I just throw the GW in 4wd and leave it, the 229 is great on the pavement and in snow, it's very smooth. My Chero will require that I keep it in 2wd unless I'm on all snow or ice, since it's D20 case is part time.

I was following you up until this line. There is no reason to leave a D20 FSJ in 2wd when driving in the snow. It will require a little more finesse in driving, but no real reason to leave it in 2wd in snow or ice.

I mean I would leave it in 4wd if the road was completely ice or snow. But if there were only patches of snow, or big open spaces of pavement, I'd leave it in 2wd in case I have to go around a turn that was all pavement.

We got freezing rain, then snow, here in Cincinnati. The lights flickered all evening, but didn't go out. 70,000 of my neighbors weren't so lucky. We stood on the porch listening to tree branches breaking and falling. The neighborhood is a mess.

My wife works in a hospital, so calling off was out of the question. I took her in the Waggy. Check my sig for my other options. The Waggy rules in this stuff. It thinks it's a mountain goat.

We have abouit 6" of stuff outside right now, it is a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, etc. I hopped in my 89 GW fired it up, decided to let it warm up a bit while I scraped the windows and such and I get in to a SNOWSTORM INSIDE my GW. Then my heater fan quit so I have frost on the INSIDE of my rig. I took my wife's stock Wrangler to get coffee and it SUCKED! I guess I need to figure out was is wrong with my heater fan! Where is the fuse for that?

Yesterday it snowed in the morning, had freezing rain, then rain all day, by 9:00 it was back to freezing rain, by bedtime it was back to snow and plummeted to 12 degrees this morning. It was a good time getting the vehicle thawed out.
I borrowed my pop's grand cherokee this morning with the quadradrive. I drove roads that were totally a sheet of ice - the quadradrive does a marvelous job. You can tell this is the weather the 4wd system was designed for.

12+" in NW IN with 3-4' drifts everywhere. The J4000 hasn't even blinked. I got to blast down the runway at my home airport last night before the big plows hit the runway. What a blast to go through a 3' drift at 60mph!

Let's see how my day was:
- pressure relief valve on hot water heater leaking like a sieve - replaced
- no heat / defrost in my 89 GW - fuses OK, blower motor DEAD - replaced with one I had in my parts bin
- post on winshield wiper on J truck snapped - too darn cold to fix
- snow covered with layer of freezing rain - shoveling and using the snow blower - darn near impossible
- slipped and fell, laid BRAND NEW cold weather mechanic wear gloves on HOT snowblower muffler - THESE GLOVES ARE NOT HEAT RESISTANT, neither is my hand!
- supposed to be 10 degrees with 40 - 50 mph winds - GREAT!
- forgot wife's valentine card and gift at school - that will never go away!
- wife left for work to work the 7 pm - 3 am shift (she is an ER nurse, can't call off) - a bit nervous, she in not the best driver even in 90 degree dry days!

on the bright side - I didn't have school today, and might not tomorrow!

Well my Valentine had to take his father to the hospital in the middle of the storm last night. So the dog and I had V-day Dinner at home by ourselves.

I took the week off to hunt the last week of archery season, not expecting this weather. call me a lightwieght but I just can't take the wind. I'm actually ok with snow and cold.

Went hunting yesterday and when I was getting ready to walk in, a lady in a H3 gave me the finger! What a hypocrite!

So I hear you Earl, and I think the wife will forgive you. Not like you knew school would be closed.

I spent two hours plowing snow with my '67 J3000 this morning. Did my driveway (all 500 feet of it), the lane to my barn, and a couple neighbor's driveways.

http://www.fullsizejeeps.com/gallery/albums/uploads/1963-1987-Pickups/normal_67plowtruck.jpg

It was 6 degrees this morning and the old truck fired right up and ran fine the whole time. This truck isn't road legal, and only gets used to plow snow, so it still amazes me how well it performs when "nature calls".

It snowed lightly for a while here, then it began to rain, then the rain turned to sleet as the temperature suddenly dropped several degrees at about 1pm, and everything began to ice over and freeze up. It was horrible, Jeeps drove through the ice without trouble from it except for one short slide in the Chero, the trouble was with the Chero running like crap. A telephone pole got really damaged right next to my block, and by bizarre luck, missing a turn because I was afraid of stalling out in traffic made me take a different route and approach my block from the other direction. The road on the western side of my block had been closed off as several trucks were there trying to restore the phone and cable lines. Glad we didn't loose our power. Right now everything is covered in an ice sheet and it's been snowing fine powder a bit.

We had about an inch or 2 of snow here Tues night followed by an inch or 2 of sleet/freezing rain/ice.

Took me 2 hours yesterday to clear the windshield and driver's windows along with shoveling & chipping ice from 1/2 of the driveway so my Darling Bride won't slip and fall on her keester.

Took the GW out for a local ride just for grinns and giggles. Gotta love the way these things manage snowy ice slick roads.

We got up to almost 15 inches of the stuff...and Level Three emergencies....(and no Jeep to drive in it :( ). I heard about the ice South of Columbus to Cincy...sux's... Our snow drifts were almost as tall as me in some places, and I'm 6'3.

I did get called in for 8 hours overnight last night, and I hate to bring up an off topic vehcile, but my 99 Jimmy chugged and plowed it's way right through that stuff in 4 hi....:D

Could you elaborate a little more on this? Do you mean switching between 2wd and 4hi made you go off the road? I was under the impression this was the 'correct' way to use part time 4 wheel...

This was a couple years ago, but I like to get out every time we get snow. The weather this day was in the high 30's, the snow was wet and packy, and this is on frozen Lake Winnebago (look at a WI map, biggest blue spot in the state). We ride our dirtbikes out here and I bought the GW for the sole purpose of making ice racing tracks.

I've driven on 6", but that was by mistake. Usually a good 8" will hold a truck up, but I like to wait till there's 10+ inches. We have anywhere from 12-22" depending on where you go and it's been a warm winter up until a few weeks ago!

My mom lives on the Lake Front of Winnebago, been on it many times during the Sturgeon Spearing. The wildest thing is when the ice cracks underneath you. Literaly can sound and feel like a bomb went off!
