What would the dash look like on my 71 Wagoneer if I just took off the factory pad that is cracked and ruined and just prepped and painted the metal underneeth it? Has anyone done this? Anyone have pics of what is left once the pad is ripped off?

It'll look like an early 60's wag or gladiator truck, in other words, it will look just fine after you fill the holes & paint it.:)
I don't know when Jeep started putting the dash pads on. '65 or '66, I think.

This is a Dash with the Pad off it. There are about 6 maybe 8 small holes across the front of it, as seen above my Speedo and Tach as well as he Speaker Grille on the pass side.

Thanks Crazy Jeepman, that's what I needed to see.... although I don't think I have all those gauges hiding under my dash pad.
I've been scratching my head on what to do with the dash, getting a cover, upholstering, etc. now I'm definitely going with the bare metal look!

Now there's another debate. As far as FSJ dashes go, I prefer "bald".:D
You can do this to the later ones too, but they have the center speaker hole.

How do the later ones (such as 1987...) look like? Anybody ever tried that? I do not like plastic at all...
Thanks

Nope, you are better off keeping that Pad, 87 is full of Holes as Slots, Major Ugly going on under that Dash Pad :omfg:

Mine had the pad and I removed it. The prep work is very time consuming to fill in all the holes, but it gave me a great opportunity to get rid of the many extra holes over the years. CB Holes, Snow Plow switches, Driving Lights etc...
