I'd like to put some high-back bucket seats into my 78 Cherokee Chief...how 'difficult' is this and are there any special 'considerations' I should be aware of?...any help or 'TIPS' would be greatly appreciated!!

There have benn lots of rumors about this before. It is generally believed that early model (square-headlight) Wrangler seats will work and therefore, any aftermarket seat for a Wrangler will fit as well.

Disclaimer: I have not done this swap nor have I seen it done. Any information you read from this post should be taken with a grain of salt and verified by yourself or other, more reliable, sources.

Thanks for the input Kimbrough, I appreciate it...I had a friend of mine tell me that he thought it was just a simple matter of finding the seats I want and swapping out the seat mount from my Cherokee to the new seats (and drilling new holes in the bracket if needed). While this sounds "reasonable" to me I can't help but feel that that i'm missing something here...any thoughts on this?

I switched the bench in my J-10 out for low back buckets, but they were for this so I didn't have to worry about anything. I would take your seats out now and measure how far apart the holes are on your brackets, then go to the junk yard and find some that are the same. May take a bit of time, but it should work (theoretically anyway. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif)

I have also heard rumors that the Ford Escort buckets are a direct bolt in....have not looked into this but they look close....

Why not try later GW buckets?? Should be a direct bolt-in using the GW brackets. You get power too http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have done the swap. I do not know what the seats are from. A friend gave them to me and I had to make many mods to make them fit. I had the bench seat originally. If you currently have the buckets then it will be even easier for you. It is just a matter of finding the ones you want and drilling a few holes. Remeber anything will fit with a drill and some time http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Escort seats while close are not a direct bolt in, you must drill a couple of holes. Lincoln seats are a little more work. If you wnat a power seat, look into Taurus seats as the controls are on the seat and only need 1 wire to hook up. The Taurus seats should be fairly easy to put on jeep pedistles.
