What are most folks doing for mirrors? I have the big ole Trucker style
http://www.fullsizejeeps.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=10087&pos=3
but most of the trails are very tight around here and they will surely not last long. Are there any old school hot rod style or FSJ ones that will bolt on and be a break away (folding) style. Do they old J trucks have the small round one? or are they square like a waggie?

I put some Vatozone cheapy ($10/pair) round ones on mine because they tuck in really nice.

Are mirrors really necessary if the rig is purely offroad?

It is easier to watch the back tire that away.

I'm obviously an offroad novice. That makes a ton of sense. I've been to Silver Lake locally, but never the trail stuff.
I was going to ask the mirror question, glad it came up. I'll be asking many more novice offroader questions, so bear with me.:o

Yeah...I always use the mirrors. I usually leave them out noramally and let mother nature tell me when it is time to fold them it. My tires should stick out past the mirrors, which will save them...but there is always that one time the trees reach out and grab you.

No problem we all had a beginning LOL The only dumb questian is the one you didn't ask! You want to see what the back wheels are doing sometimes to make sure that it isn't to close to the edge of a 1000 ft drop as you have to back and fill around a corner or make sure that rock ain't getting ready to grab your rim and do nasty things to it. Also Crom is a semi street truck until I get the tow rig finished he has to take us to the trails and back. When we go to Ouray he has to tow a trailer for our gear and his extra fuel!

i've also got the giant dumbo mirrors. while they are big tree catchers, i can't use the smaller mirrors because i like to see what my back tires are doing. when things get tight, just fold them in. ;)

The F150/Bronco mirrors are big enough to be useful and tucked up enough to be out of the way most of the time. They also fold up without losing the mirror adjustment. I posted the pics of mine in another thread recently.

Go down to the boneyard and get you a pair of Grand Waggy electric mirrors. Be sure to get the switches in the door panels. Adjustable from inside the cab, small enough that trees won't catch em and if they do they fold back.
