So I plan on getting some new tires soon, wanna start to get ready for Ouray. I have my eye set on some 31s (3 inch lift). My friend has the Kumho Venture MTs and they do really good. I can get a really good deal on 4, $105 apiece. What are other good tires out there? Are the Maxxis Buckshots mudders good? The tread looks aggresive but I have read that they dont have very good tread wear. Im just lookin for different options for it.

I have Michelin LTX A/T's and have approx. 80,000 miles on them and they still look pretty good. They are pricey but I have been very happy with them. I have read good things about the Kumho's, check the reviews on www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com) Good Luck.

Try a search for wild spirt. Im not positive but I think bridgestone makes them.. They wear and ride good on the street. They got some good tread and work pretty good offroad. They are great tires in the snow on the road also. I had a pair of the michelin ltx with a load range E.... Great tire.

What's the intended use? daily driver? offroad only? long trips? makes a huge difference.
I just put my second set of BFG AT KOs on the 350, the first set lasted 60,000 miles on this 8,000 pound truck (and were still fine onroad, just not off). They're very good on road and pretty good off, but mud is a problem once they start to wear down.

There's many brands and treads out there.I have 3 years wheelin and daily driving on General A/T 31's.They are holding up fine, and so far, don't see any need to replace them any time soon.I gave 477$ all 4 mounted.Routinely rotating your tires (especially oversize 4x4's) will give you maximum wear and life.
Tires I had before lift were Michelin X terrains (stock size)Were pricey, but great tires on and off road.Had about 30,000 on them when I lifted/replaced them about 3 years ago-sold them to friend. He still has them on his truck and they still have very much tread left.

For mostly road use with moderate off-road my choice is the Bridgestone Revo II. I have them on my Tahoe and Dodge truck and am totaly happy with them. IMO, they are better than the Michy's, Goodyear AT's, and BFG AT's all of which I have run in poast years.
If you do research, you'll find these tires are the best on wet roads and icy conditions, very good in mud and sand, and are OK in rocks if you keep the sidewals out of them.
Second choice which is good on the road and outstanding off road in all areas is the MT Baja Claws.
For hardcore off road Super Swamper SX's and if you see mud, Boggers.

I personaly think the BFG Mud-Terrains have the best of both worlds. Great off-road traction and great road manners. The All-Terrains they offer arent worth a Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley off road in my opinion tho...

Ive got interco sxs and ehile i love them i dont recommend much street driving because most wont balance and they wear quickly. Our work truck has bfg ats and i really like them (only problem is mud). Also one of my friends has buckshots on his dodge and they get pretty good traction and mileage while staying quiet on the road.

I like BFG ATs a lot but, now that I no longer get 'em free, I'll likely not buy another set because they're only a snow tire in the plowed road sense. The'd be fine at Ouray, if a little greasy in the inevitable afternoon rain. One o' these days, those guys will come to their senses and start holding that thing in mid-September which, as any Colorodan knows, is the very best time to be up in the hills.

I like my BFG A/T kos, they are very good on the road, they have good pavement traction and wear well, they have three sidewall plies instead of two, and they're easily available at most tire places. Offroad they do well in pretty much anything except thick mud and deep snow, but that is really the domain of aggressive mud tires, which are not so good on the road. If you're going to be driving on the street a lot but do intend to go offroad often, I'd suggest the BFG A/Ts. If you intend to be driving on the street a lot but also see some deeper mud, then the BFG M/Ts are a good choice imo. Some other tire brands I've had bad luck with, while I hear good things about bridgestone, the bridgestones on my car weared oddly and one tire went all out of round and made my car ride awful and dart around. Put on new tires and it tracked straight and rode smoothly again. Now I'm wary of bridgestones, but I've had no problems with BFGs so those are usually my tire choice.

The new issue (april 2007) of Jp magazine has a big writeup on quite a few tires. That might help you decide. They rate them for street, mud, rocks and sand.

Agreed 110% on all statements. BFG ATs are USELESS on ice, and clog up quick in mud. I run them on my Exploder, they are decent in crunchy snow, just not slick stuff. New rig has 33x13.50 Wild Country MT's, they ride great in slush, poorly on anything but smooth blacktop, and awesome in the dirt :D
Sept would be sweet up there, it's the whole vacation/kids thing I guess. Not an issue for locals, but..

BFG T/A Ko's are great tires for the sand too.
I did find some bad news.....they discontinued the size I've been running. (325x60x15)
I'll probably end up getting some Pro Comp's next.
