I amseriously debating cutting the flares off of my cherokee for a little added flex room and all. Does anybody have any pics of cherokees with fenders cut off ? Preferably right at the edge of the flare? Well Post em UP! :D

A big problem with cutting the rear flares on a WT is the fact that you'll have to do a lot of patch work to close the vast open spaces.

The rear flares are two layer affairs that don't lend themselves to amputation.

don't cut the flares! they are getting harder and harder to come by, and they make the widetracks so unique. keep the flares, go with more lift or a narrower tire or different offset wheel so they tuck in instead of bashing the flares. :)

PO cut the fenders on my 77 Chero...from what I can determine it's about 1"-2" AAL lift under it...33x12.5x15's Haven't had it hit the fender on flex yet, but haven't wheeled it enough to truely tell in all situations. PO's cut job opened up a wide gap in the back end wheel well/quarter panel, been booger'd in with silicone.

I really liked the looks of the flares on mine so most of them are there now but i had to trim some to clear the tires at full stuff. I trimmed back to the bend where the flares run vertical and left the actual flare on to preserve the look. It works great and gains about an inch more clearance.

My rear flares are growing something and mostly rusted out. Sorry guys If they were really clean I wouldn't even question it. What looks better Rusty Flares or No Flares is what im debating.

In that case, cut away, there's already openings to the outside.

Yup to what Lindel said. If the flares are toast I'd bust out the sawzall.

I love the flares and I'll be keeping mine. Doesn't BJ's have a fibreglass replacement set?

I'll be buying a pair, as the rear ones on my Chero have been partially cut away.

Jon cut off the flares on his 79 and this is what it's like with 4 (or is it 6) inch lift with 35's (yellow jeep)
my 79, the PO had cut them rounded, doesn't have lift with 33's

Mine were rotted also. We started on the flairs with the sawzall and went a little nuts. Here's a link to a thread that has some pics in it.

Here's a pict with a bit more trimming than just around the flare. The Chief is sitting on 35's and 3in Rough country springs.
