Well I bought another. 1988 grand wagoneer. It has some issues and ofcourse I have some questions. They mostly revolve around will parts from a 1980 wag fit on the 88. #1 will my 4in lift springs from a 1980 wag fit on the 1988? #2 What about the gas tank skid plate? #3 The 88 has a vacume switch for 2wd and 4wd, this seems to work fine, the problem is that the lever to shift from hi to low wont budge, it is stuck in hi. Since I have'nt had a cchance to get it up on the hoist at work to look I was just hoping to rely on you guys experince on what to check out first. Thanks

Some will- The lift I believe is yes. The skid plate is going to be different, but I dont know about the swap-a-bility. The hi/low lever is best actuated at a 2-5 mph roll. I usually stop on a slight incline and while holding the brake, I put tranny in Park and pull up on lever as I let off of brake. Good luck and Welcome....

The lift will match right up on the 88 and the skid plate should also. I guess it would be asking too much for them to leave the owners manual in em huh? If i remember right you do a slow roll and put it in nuetral. Then you should be able to shift from hi to low.(this allows the t/c to disengage to allow it to shift.) It's been a few years since I've been able to drive mine.

it will not go into 4low unless it is already in 4hi.
you first need to find out if it is in 4hi.
