Ok, pulled the old tired 258 out and took the head off and found some cracks in my cyl walls. So I found another 258 with about 30000 miles on it. (minus the oil pan, oil pump, intake, exhaust, timing cover, push rods and head bolts) Picked it up yesterday for $240. Now I am going to get a 4.0 head and was woundering, are any of you out there that has done this put the stock 258 intake back on the 4.0 head with any problems?
I am going to try and use the 4.0 exhaust manifold that I have also. Will there be any problem with the 258 intake, 4.0 head and 4.0 exhaust manifold?
Another plan that I have is to change my gearing, maybe to 4.56 or 4.8 something. Right now I have 32X11.50s on and before the motor went "tits up" she was really dam slow on any uphill. I'm not looking for hard core 4x4 gearing since this will be a daily driver with some highway time. The thing is that since I am staying with the 258(modified) I want to get a little more out of the Jeep. Right now I think I have either hi 2.something or low 3.something gears.
Any info would sure help right now.
Thanks

Here is a site that will help with the 4.0L head: 4.0 Head swap (http://monsterslayer.com/jeep/40Head/40Head.htm).

As for the intake, yes, you can use a stock 258 intake just fine, that's what I'm running on my stroker: offy 4bbl intake for a 258 and a 4.0 header. You will have to use exhaust made for the 4.0, the 258 exhaust manifold won't work.

To put the intake on all you have to do is notch out the bottom of the centering pin a bit so the intake sits on top of the pins rather than over them. This will move the intake up about a 1/2" or so and cover up the injector ports on the 4.0 head. Check out the stroker section on my web page for some pics.

4.56 sounds like an awfull lot of gear with 32's if you are going to be doing any highway traveling.i would think a 3.83 or 4.11 would be better suited.
